Black or grey?

Just got a message from the camerastore. They can give me a M9 tomorrow if i can accept a grey (i ordered a black) after just three weeks waiting. Goods now how long time it takes to get a black one. The thing that worries me is that on the pictures of the grey m9 it looks like the same slippery cover as on the M8. Is that right?

Are there any more arguments for and against a grey M9?

Just picked up a steel gray M9 from a NJ dealer today:D. They called me to have a look at the X1 they had received last Friday. The X1 was gone, but not the only M9 they had (one M9 and one X1 for a pretty large dealer!). Compared to my black M8, the steel gray M9 looks at least as good I find.

The titanium is a bit warmer in tone when looking at the side of the lens (as in pic. 2 and 3). However when you look at the front of the lens (as in pic. 1,) it has virtually the same cool tone color as the gray paint of the M9!

I think pic 3 displays a pretty close match of the steel gray paint.

I where at my photostore 2 hours ago, and fell in love instantly. I love the gray an the covering is kind of OK. Better than M8.

And i were amazed of the differences from the M8, in sounds, feeling yes everything. So i am extremly happy now :-)

It's kind of ironic that folks are being offered grey instead of black these days. At the end of last year the situation was the complete opposite - black now or wait weeks/months for grey.

Enjoy the camera. The pictures look the same regardless of the outside colour of the body. :D

I agree!!!

I would have taken grey prior to black if the waiting gap wasn't that big.

Anyway, using M9 is just a pleasure :D

A $7000 camera deserves a real metal finish like chrome.

Indeed! (Not just because it's a $7000 camera but because the beautiful metal chrome finish is the traditional Leica chrome coating. Period.)

Replacing the chrome top plate for a metal gray painted one, it's like having a Ferrari with other color than red... :D :D :D

Maurizio! Please spill the details on the covering. Did you do it yourself? Which type of leather was it?

Matlep,

I do it myself, yes, it was not that difficult... you just have to pay attention, but then it was easier than calibrating a carburator! ;)

anyway, I bought a Black Beauty pre-cut skin kit from cameralether.com

I love it.

The black dot instead, must be something valuable... It's the original red one, just painted by the Ferrari bodyshop here in my town.

Yep, I've got an Enzo Black Dot! :p

I sometimes wonder if all of you asking for a chrome version do also drive these cars with huge chrome wheels ? ;)

Seriously, the chrome M versions were absolutely beautiful, but I do feel that Leica did well to replace it with that new grey version. It just fits better the colors and designs of our times.
