markpsf Posted February 24, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 24, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am considering ordering an M9 from Leica Shop. This would be shipped to me in the U.S. Have any of you done this before and, if so, are there any cautions or should I just "go for it"? Thanks. Thanks. Mark Leicashop in Vienna is extremely reliable and well stocked, highly recommended. I have no experience ordering from the US, however, but I know they handle that on a regular basis. I am checking to see whether they will mail through regular mail, in which case I've been told that there won't be tariff charges. I want to verify that, however. stephengilbert Posted February 24, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 24, 2010 Is there a tariff? I seem to recall that photographic equipment is exempt.
diogenis Posted February 24, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 24, 2010 Obviously you will tell them to deduct VAT for exporting it to USA right?
a.j.z Posted February 24, 2010 Share #7 Posted February 24, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know the shop and agree that it is reliable. Of course I cannot say anything about US customs. I would also inquire about insurance for shipping.
erlingmm Posted February 24, 2010 Share #8 Posted February 24, 2010 Obviously you will tell them to deduct VAT for exporting it to USA right? Look at their pricelist, click on the American flag, prices without VAT. I would assume they also know about US customs regulations and transport options, I would give them a call. UliWer Posted February 24, 2010 Share #9 Posted February 24, 2010 Leica Shop Wien certainly is one of the top international dealers, and I think they will be able to handle all customs and VAT problems. - Though I'd always prefer a dealer who is close to you. I am sure you find one in California. Even if you don't need him for any warranty regulations, you'll perhaps need him for a simple lens hood, or something like this. It makes a difference if "your" dealer kmows you for buying an expensive M9, or if you are just one of many customers.
swamiji Posted February 24, 2010 Share #10 Posted February 24, 2010 Yes, There are Leica dealers in California, many, but M9's for sale, No. Waiting lists are long, supply is short.
