Advertisement Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Hi leicamann, Take a look here Kai Kai. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
UliWer Posted February 24, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 24, 2010 I am wondering about your title "Kai Kai" - what does it mean? I love the Steller's Jay as it kindled my interest in birding again quite long ago when I stayed in the Californian Rockys.
leicamann Posted February 24, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted February 24, 2010 Kai Kai..is the birds "real name"..non- European name The origin of the "use" of that name is in the Puget Sound area of Seattle, the language is known as "Dulth- Lushootseed..pronounced doo l th..lu shoo t seed, that was the same language Chief Sealth/ Seattle spoke. Kai Kai is a mythical figure in the Puget sound culture...his present "form" is a reminder."to always listen to and respect your Elders".. So by doing this, its a nod of respect, so to the Elders, Kai Kai is not "just another bird"..but someone special..so pay attention Thanks for asking and thanks for looking Cheers., JRM
