luigi bertolotti Posted March 5, 2010 Share #21 Posted March 5, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Do you think it could be a factory test lens, maybe hooked up to a mechanical focusing aid (set at 1m, 3m, and 10m) to check camera focus set-up? John Uhm... I think not... would it have been an "inside factory" test lens, that strange lever ought to be be "rougher" ; on the contrary, it looks a rather styled device (for what such a simple piece can be "styled") : the fact that it was (originally ?) mounted on that strange M5 makes me think it was a sort of test version of a possible "special edition"... shown to some salespeople-resellers' group to evaluate if it would result into an interesting version to market... let's not forget that M5 was NOT a succesful camera... easy to imagine that at Leitz they were scratching their heads to find a way to boost someway the sales. BTW, the "Safari M5" in the picture was not a "display camera"... Sartorius, in the article, says that it was a fully operative item.
