Longer than 135 mm on the M8?

Please - don't flame me, but I'm wondering about longer than a 135 on the M8. Here's why:

We are taking a short trip to Ecuador and the rain forest. I'm already supporting the family Canon lineup, with a long lens setup mostly used by my son. I'd like to take my M8 - for the city/people shots.

But when we're in some long shot birding areas, I'd like to see if there is a super long lens setup that works for the M8. I've got a 135 Elmar (ugly looking but works well for $100), but was wondering if anyone had used any longer lenses. Composition will be challenging....

Is this Visoflex and 200 mm area? Again, its not for a perfect answer, but rather to see what is possible, and have a bit of fun with that. Of course, if it gets too complicated, renting a body and long lens is possible but this would be no fun in the city.

Together with a Visoflex a lot is possible on the M8 - though I would not take all this stuff on a voyage. This is the field for a SLR.

+1.

The limit on the M8 is 135mm without the Visoflex. With it, you can go all the way to 800mm. Or you can go as close as a few cm from your subject. The possibility is there but it takes time and effort to set up and execute, probably two things you do not have going on a trip running around.

+2 I'm afraid. I have a Visoflex III + 65mm, 200mm, 280mm, 400mm and 560mm. To lug around even the 200mm is an effort over long distance, you tend to miss more shots than you get, and any longer than 280mm you need a very, very sturdy tripod to nail stuff without monster camera shake, such is the size and weight of it. I'm not sure the birds will pose as long as it takes to take their picture with that rig, especially as you say it's a short trip.

Mind you, short haul (for me at least) I've found it's worth lugging the 560mm inc Televit around just to see the faces of the "birders" with their Canikon long lenses at the London Wetlands Centre. I need another M8 to take their pictures gawping at it...

Get a long Canon lens and let you son take those piccies, whilst you take the serious stuff in the towns and cities.

Have a great trip.
