What I was trying to say is, there has been a pent-up demand for a full frame Leica M series. I know that I have been waiting for one for many years, as I still use my M6 as my daily camera after having tried several digital cameras and been unhappy with them. Now, Leica produces one and everyone that has been waiting for years, place an ordered for one or more. Of course this demand placed a burden on Leica to maintain quality and keep customers happy, as well as taxed the capability of their suppliers. I think most people that had that pent-up desire to own one, has already ordered one, thus the demand has fallen off. Now, only Canon and Nikon converts, willing to pay thousands of dollars more for a camera that they probably feel inferior, will set the new order rate. Leica built bits & pieces based on analysing a thread over here some time ago. So the multiplier on average is 5. It might even have been no. of Leica built cameras that was being surveyed but I would have to find the thread first to verify. Anyway the multiplier is in this sort of ballpark. In use I see no difference from the original battery delivered with the M9. Approx same amount of shots and same time for charging. In fact the camera has difficulties showing right amount of charge with the original battery, but no problem with eBay ones. Now, lets see which ones last the longest. Could you define "crap"? After telling a friend I thought that Leica delivery problems were only due to unprecedented demand, I have just got off the phone to my London dealer who is feeling very miserable. Leica have just told him that the delivery they expected to provide in February now wont happen and that the next delivery will be in March, black models only. Since I ordered a grey model my dealer wanted to know if I would be flexible and accept a black one if that came in first. (My answer was 'yes' -- I am not that fussed really). He went on to say he thought that Leica must be having some problem with parts because his shop has not received nearly the expected number of units over the last month/six weeks. He cannot get batteries, he cannot get lenses. He said: "we feel like the pub with no beer -- if we could get 50 units we could sell them all tomorrow". I think I ended up consoling for the sorrows of being a Leica dealer! Since my M8 is chuffing along just fine I am not overly worried, but I wonder if indeed there is an underlying problem. Has anyone else waiting for an M9 heard that there are production delays? Robert I've also been waiting for my M9 (black or grey, I don't really care) and have been promised it this coming week. I am not sure what the solution is but it sure is good to see such forgiving Leica enthusiasts that seemingly will accept any level of service thrown at them.The M9 is the only product on the market. If there was competition, I don't think you'd see this kind of behavior either from Leica or the buying public.
