Advertisement Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Hi jaapv, Take a look here Johnathan Slack's book on the M9. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wattsy Posted February 16, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 16, 2010 Yes, interesting. The LFI feature at the time of the M9 launch didn't do Jono's photography any favours. Even a cursory look at the Blurb preview of this book shows he's shot some lovely stuff with the camera - including one of the best 'chicken' shots I've seen. scott kirkpatrick Posted February 16, 2010 Share #3 Posted February 16, 2010 Was the Bill Parsons "any Eyes, One Camera" also done by Blurb? Picture reproduction in that one was quite acceptable, price quite a bit lower (I bought the smaller of two sizes, I confess). This looks like a good buy. I still wonder how so many of the people shot at close range could fail to notice that the "M8" that Jono was using had a notch cut out of its upper deck. Maybe not in Baku, but in Crete... scott

Guest malland Posted February 16, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 16, 2010 Congratulations, Jono. There are some great photos there: you have a fantastic sense of colour, but some of the black and white landscapes steal the show, which, without taking away anything from some of these excellent colour pictures, perhaps goes to show that it's more difficult to make colour shots that really stand out from those of many other people, simple because there is so much colour photography around, and one usually can't push colour around as much as one can B&W without leaving reality altogether. The layout is absolutely brilliant: I like the way some shots are cropped to be bleed full-page, while other ones are shown full-frame with margins all around — I also like the way the portrait-orienation shots are laid out. Jono, did you to the design and layout of the book yourself? —Mitch/Bangkok Barrier Series
jonoslack Posted February 16, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 16, 2010 HI There. Jaap - first of all, many thanks for starting this thread . . . Andreas suggested I started one, but it's much much nicer that you do it! The Charity is the Alzheimer's Research Foundation - something we all hope we'll avoid, and which might be either curable or stoppable - here is a link to their website: Alzheimer's Research Foundation Interestingly the camera you have posted a picture of looks like silver-chrome. Mine was black paint - there was some tape over the prosthesis at the top, covering where the LCD was as well as the little plastic semi-circle. Ian Thank you for the kind words - I wasn't very happy with the choice of pictures for the LFI magazine either - I was hoping that they would show it's possibilities as a landscape camera, but they settled mainly for 'test shots' - still, that's the way it goes! As for the chicken shot - she kept coming into the kitchen, but was found dead a few days later (probably trodden on by a horse we think). Scott Hi there - Bill's book was also by Blurb - I think that they do a grand job, and if there is anything wrong they replace it without question. The reason this is more expensive is that it is bigger - and it uses premium quality paper - it might be worth doing a smaller version, but it's quite a lot of work! Mitch Thank you so much - I'm flattered. I was worried a bit about the design, so it's great to hear that you liked it (yes, I did it myself). The black and white landscapes are definitely a work in progress . . . rather than trying to make them look like film, I'm really trying to make the most of the advantages of digital. I'm hoping to try and do a book of them at some point in the future.

TacTZilla Posted February 16, 2010 Share #8 Posted February 16, 2010 The cameras had a little blank piece stuck on to hide the step. No top LCD though. Where can I get one of those blanks? That would solve my problem of sticking the corner into my eyebrow nerve. Cheers B
jaapv Posted February 16, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted February 16, 2010 I've got a little round piece of rubber that comes with the SFILL diffuser. It looks like it can be adapted for this purpose. I do not need it; if you PM me your address I'll mail it to you.

scott kirkpatrick Posted February 20, 2010 Share #17 Posted February 20, 2010 Google cache contains a post from Leica rumors, dated 11.9.2009: "Westlicht has two Leica M9 prototypes (black and steel gray) up for auction. The cameras are labeled as M8, similar to the one in this video. Starting price is EUR 7,000, expected selling price is EUR 14,000 – 18,000. They also have few Leica MP prototypes." The link to the video has Chris Weeks showing what's in his camera bag, including a black "M8" with the little plastic prosthesis. I suppose after 9.9.09, the nda's were no longer in force for beta testers. scott
