cocker Posted February 18, 2010 Share #21 Posted February 18, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) My thanks to Lord Barton of Hilbre for pointing out to me that the exhibition is next week, rather than tomorrow. Enough grovelling - are you coming?
Advertisement Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Hi cocker, Take a look here Exhibition if the NW contingent want cake…. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
elansprint72 Posted February 18, 2010 Share #22 Posted February 18, 2010 Enough grovelling - are you coming? Insh Allah. I have the best/worst part of a week in that London to get through first. Death by Powerpoint. My presentation involves pencils, paper and slide-rules (I only managed to find five, so it's a "syndicate exercise" ) Nuff said. At least we'll have a larf, innit? Falstaff Posted February 26, 2010 Share #24 Posted February 26, 2010 Thought provoking set of pictures imaginatively framed. Both Lady Falstaff and I thought so. Good to see the old lags. Sorry we had to rush off. Thanks for the invite DD. Falstaff
elansprint72 Posted February 26, 2010 Share #25 Posted February 26, 2010 I crave your indulgence here: I have a photo of the venue, this was early on when only a few cake-scoffers had arrived. For those who were not there, the exhibition was at both ends of the mezz floor, with comestibles at the mid point. The venue was the splendid Royal Exchange where Manchester Men did today what London softies would do tomorrow. Nice to meet the usual suspects and a couple of long-suffering spouses too. btw; it's a Nikon snap. Welcome, dear visitor! andybarton Posted February 26, 2010 Share #26 Posted February 26, 2010 Just got home, via Rolo Mansions and the badlands of Bowden. Thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition, Dave. A really excellent body of work which is a classic "greater than the sum of its parts" and a perfect foil to the play. Thank you. Ann says thanks very much to Sarah for the doggy bag too
cocker Posted February 26, 2010 Share #27 Posted February 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) David, Thanks for a really thought provoking set of pictures and Sarah for some delicious cakes. Elizabeth is the cake experts of the two of us and she was overwhelmed! Great to see everybody there to celebrate a great photographer and a good thinking man. elansprint72 Posted February 26, 2010 Share #30 Posted February 26, 2010 Dave, sorry I couldn't make it but I was travelling back "up north" from Gosport at the time. Hey, I'm working nobbut a cockstride from there most weeks (not next week). I'll give you a shout. Pie and pint?
elansprint72 Posted February 26, 2010 Share #31 Posted February 26, 2010 PS Mr T. Great Pictures - must look at one of them Oriental Johnny photoboxes. I'm impressed by what I shot later on the way to the station, set ISO max to 1600 (being a Tri-X sort of bloke). No, as in zero, noise. Must get out and try the ISO 25600 setting. What was the max on a M9 again? And it costs how much?
DTD Posted February 27, 2010 Author Share #32 Posted February 27, 2010 Ta to everyone who managed to make it – Steve can rest assured the's some cake in the freezer for next time we meet – if we meet again it will be in the place where there is no darkness. jmr Posted February 28, 2010 Share #33 Posted February 28, 2010 Dave, Saw the play last night and took in the exhibition beforehand - it sets the scene perfectly and makes its themes seem all the more pressing and real. There are a couple of your images in the centre-spread of the programme too. Well done.
andybarton Posted February 28, 2010 Share #34 Posted February 28, 2010 Is the play any good, John?
DTD Posted February 28, 2010 Author Share #35 Posted February 28, 2010 Cheers John. Going to see the play in a week or two, might go to the after show discussion on 18 March. I was really pleased they used a couple of my photos in the programme. Apparently one of the short films I did is showing on the BBC Big Screen in Exchange Square, which is good. If anyone's interested in 1984 ephemera, I've got some posts on my blog: dunniphoto
jmr Posted March 1, 2010 Share #36 Posted March 1, 2010 Dave, you're in for treat - the play is exceptional, visceral yet with many subtle passages between Winston and Julia. The staging works well in the space and adds substantially to excellent performances from the whole cast. Andy, you really should go to see it, it's three hours long yet never drags. Row B at stage level is my favourite in the Exchange: cheaper than the gallery but with a great view and better engagement with the action.
