Learning Capture One for a future M8

I'm in a strange mode. I'm holding off on my M8 to let the dust settle and see where things are in six months or a year but I got Capture One LE and am trying to learn it as it appears its going to be the software processor of choice for the M8 (it's appears to be very good for the 5D to).

So I'm starting to try to learn Capture One for the future M8 but I find it very non intuitive, very little documentation on it at Phase One's site (user forums seem always down) and no third party books or training. I contacted one of their training partners and it was US1200 dollars a day with no scheduled classes.

How can I go about learning C1? How did you all learn it. I currently use CS2 for all my processing work.

I wouldn't be so quick to give up on CS2. By the time you get your M8 I fully expect Adobe to have provided updates to yield good results with the M8.

The single biggest problem with CE is that you can only set which ICC profile you want to use as one global preference, rather than choose a different one for every file. Otherwise CE also has no rotate tool, which drives me nutty. No other big differences but those two are enough to make it a non-starter for me other than on the occasional file here and there which really requires it.

I am used to Lightroom and once I started to perceive the different functionality modules in C1 as being like the expanding tabs in Lightroom's Develop module, I started to feel much more at home with it. The Batch functions are a nightmare to work out - as you say, documentation 0 points - but they are superb once you get used to them. I just asked on here when I got stuck and people were very helpful so do try that.

C1 Pro is the obvious solution but it's stupidly more expensive for just those two features - they won't be getting my money. I'm just assuming that when the ACR and Lightroom are both up to date with profiles, and I have filters for all my lenses (apart from the CV15mm) then I'll use Lightroom but for some reason I can't fathom, Adobe won't be putting ICC profile choice into Lightroom. Someone (Jamie?) could do the world a great favour by developing a couple of Lightroom camera presets that match the ICC profiles.

Best

Don't waste your time with C1 LE , it's very limited in features as compared to camera raw. Try Raw Developer
