M8 issue ... please help.

I'm seeing these bright semi-circles on my M8's images at high shutter speeds... 1/1000th and higher. The issue is the most prevalent at 1/8000th and gradually disappears until it is gone at 1/500th. It is always in the same spot on the image as well.

Have any idea what it is? I've underexposed the image to make the issue more visible.

It is not lens flare because it happens in any type of light with any type of lens.

Pure speculation here: it looks like some time of shutter drag, one of the blades on the shutter might be warped.I'm not sure if the blades go straight down, or are pulled at an an angle to cause this arch. Try shooting without a lens, holding the camera to an even light source, like a grey card.

With a film camera, I would tell you to open up the back and look through it. With a Digital camera- I would have it checked professionally.

Do you see a very small triangular dent on one of the bladeedges after detaching the lens?

This would be a sign of starting problems.......

Ok, I sent them to Leica, but they won't be around until Tuesday. And yes, I do see a small dent on a shutter blade. Most likely the cause huh?

I also see a small mark (not sure if it is a dent) on one of the blades but I do not see that problem in my photos.

In the beginning of this commen failure, dealers told claiming customers that this was caused by incorrect attachment of the lens = consumer mistake - nonsens at all.

One Dutch dealer claimed that this dents had been caused by exposing the lens to the sun - BS in it's purest sense - not for the analogue Ms!

After this failure happened too often, Leica offered the 'slower' 1/4000 sec.

New shutter? Around € 750,00......

Good Luck!

Yeah, I saw that thread, but this is a different issue. I'll call them on Tuesday. I'll mention that I've found instances around the web and see what kind of discount they can give me on the repair.

If your camera is out of warranty, no special, I bet. I have tried to get my sensor (lines) and possibly-ready-to-explode shutter replaced by Leica NJ for free but failed. No, I did not pay as I do not intend to spend any more money on my M8.

Hi. I had the exact same issue with my M8. I had this problem, the shutter problem, the thumbwheel problem, the coffee ring problem, the banding at high ISO problem and others. I just joined this forum today after a Google search for M8 Shutter Fault. This is some unreliable camera huh?
