Value of pre ASPH 35mm?

I have a dear friend who is ailing and selling his Leica kit. Among the goodies is a pre ASPH 35mm titanium, German-made, 1.4 lens. I want to purchase the lens and want to offer him a fare market value. I've done a bit of searching and see the going rate to be around $1500. I'm just wondering if anyone can share any insight. The lens is in good shape. (I currently have a 35mm ASPH 'lux, but like the vintage aspect to this lens, as well as it's compact size.) Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.

For what it's worth, the lens will be used on my MP for largely black and white work.

Thanks in advance

$1500 is about right for that lens in general - the titanium finish is rarer and might command a small premium of $200-300. SInce those few who use titanium-finish M6's might pay extra to get the matching finish. A local shop here in Denver had a Titan 35 'lux preASPH for consignment sale at $2000 last fall and they were willing to bargain to move it.

Uli, your linked dealer's prices don't look too far out of line overall - but €3,000 ($4,000) for a plain chrome 35 SUMMILUX pre-ASPH is deranged! At that price, they had better be solid gold under the chrome finish, not brass!

Yes, a lot of money... but the pre asph is a collectible, and, looking better at the "3000 €" item... it is a rather rare specimen : a very late item (in very good conditions)of the first series that acceptes OLLUX (they changed soon after that s/n, at 2.166.701), with the raised red dot (most have the painted one), OLLUX included, front cap (super rare! I haven't it, damn !), chrome (most of that time were black)... tasty details for a lover of that "gem-like" lens...:).

The pre-ASPH 35mm Summilux-M titanium usually sells around $1800 to $1900 complete with pouch, box, original hood (!! quite expensive) in mint condition. I have the black, German-made version (latest batch made in parallel to the titanium version) and really like this lens, especially for BW. The ASPH has higher contrast but the pre-ASPH is wonderful for portraits.

This is my favorite lens on my M2. Sorry to hear the prices are so high. I paid around US 750 for a mint lens with hood. It is by far my favorite M lens for portraits and with Neopan 1600, I get spectacular late night images. The trick is to always shoot wide open. The lens is designed for that & when you stop down, it's more like an older summicron.
