When I feel like this I do like I did yesterday. I take my M6 out and shoot a roll of film. I then take it to Target...pick it up the next day....scan the negatives....work them over in Photoshop.... After doing all of this, I revisit my decision to order the M9 and reaffirm that I made the right decision.

Too right - I earn a little extra cash making exhibition prints for a fellow photographer. Scans from some of his old K'chromes need a couple of hours of retouching each to remove the accumulated decades of scratches and embedded dust. At $40 per hour (I cut him a lot of slack in billing vs. the actual time I spend).

In his most recent order he included a CD of recent shots from his Canon 1Ds - WHAT a relief! And what a savings for him!

I got a friend who just been introduced to the M-series and has also been waiting for his M9 since October (he's in Asia) and did mention if it's not coming this summer, he's going to give up. What a pity, similar to Arthur's case but also very different, as Arthur had already invested in some M-gears .... still wonder there are more to it than the ".... i can't wait any more, life is too short ..." reason. And i thought to myself "once a leica user, always a leica user", guess i am wrong in this case :-(

I actually got one 10 days after I decided I wanted one.

How? persistence.

I simply called more or less all the leica dealers in the US. They all said out of stock, but then I called again and again.

After 10 days a store in New Jersy called and said they had one in stock. I just hopped on a train the following day and got it, luckily Im only in NY ;)

Same here. Only I just had them Fedex the camera to me. Interestingly, I just had a call from another store I had called in the search, offering me yet another M9.

Get on a list and wait? You must be kidding. I needed two M9 s and got them both within first 90 days ....could have had 4 by now and I didn t stiff any dealers in the process.

Call the Pro Shop in Palm Beach ..he is an official Leica Store . He had one two weeks ago that I could have bought across the counter. A nice fellow from Belgium told me he flew over to get his M9 here.

Y'know, Jaap, as one of my ex-mother-in-laws used to say, the strange thing about commonsense is that it is not all that common...

Bill

irony... not knowing what the common in common sense is actually meaning.

See ya!

Wouldn't wanna be ya!

great response. i wonder why some people feel they need announce their departure, making a statement. as if they want to hear people to tell them to stay.

I'd bet anything it wasn't just the wait- eyesight failing, poor health, other unexpected expenses. Who knows since he won't say. If you're excited about a new camera, most anyone can wait and take great pictures with whatever dslr, m4/3, film M, lowly M8 (just kidding) camera you have sitting around. And I'd be willing to bet we all have other cameras sitting around begging to be used. I've been waiting so long for my M9 that I hope I'm not disappointed when I finally get it. But I haven't stopped taking pictures- which is what it's all about, right?

Wow, this turned nasty real fast. I think that some forget that here at the LUF we do not go quietly into the night. We leave amongst great fanfare and ticker tape and announce our departure and in many cases we leave many times. These events are never meant to go unnoticed as we proclaim our final frustrations and disgust and emotions with our loved camera. Many departees in their parting screed make one last flaunt in front of the forum with their new Nikon or Canon mistress.

Arthury, did not even do that, he simple expressed his frustration and stated humbly that, "Have been a nice few years with you guys. Sorry for being negative in the last 2 months."

Arthury, good bye and I hope you return to Leica, I will certainly welcome you here. Maybe, I'll see you at Glazers drooling over the counter with Mark.

p.s. I was wondering what part of Elliot Bay you were dumping your gear, that is... Seattle joke... keep clam.

Rick

I must agree with this sentiment. I am new to the forum and here to learn, to see what other people have to offer and to say and what problems they may encounter or advise they have to offer.

Some of the responses to the "GoodBye Note" were plain mean. Is that what photography or blogging is all about - being mean?

Arthur, wait a minute. I'm puzzled. On the one hand, I can feel your frustration as you wait for an M9; it bothered me a lot too. But on the other hand, I really don't understand dumping all your Leica gear. Mine still worked just fine, even while I was frustrated that I didn't have the newest/latest/even-more-useful one. And I still use my M8 regularly, after the M9 has come.

I used to live in your rainy neighborhood & agree with the fellow who suggessted you write off some of your distress as SAD. The cause & effect seem disproportionate in this instance.

Hmmm..... I detect a note of Ann Landers in my paragraphs.

Ann Landers lived in Chicago, where it's not sunny either. To the point - why would anyone be expected to care that someone is not going to buy a camera? Were it not for the advent of the M9, we could be posting about our wonderful M8s and their lenses and how to make better pictures. Rather than this nonsense.

Thank you for all of your kind words.

BTW, I also have an open invitation to anyone who is interested to take over as the Admin for the M9 Group in Flickr. Please reply to this thread below . Thanks!

Arthury, I am predicting that the floodgates of M9's is about to open again and dealers will start to get 10-20 a month again. The last six weeks is a bit of an aberration that we all knew was going to happen. Hang on for a few more weeks.

Well, FYI there seams to be no shortage of M9"s in staten Island NY, Nadinej30 has 8 for sale on E-bay for only $5,499.00! She claims she sold 2 already.

Haha not a chance I would buy from this person unless I could pick up in person. The only person who gave her feedback for one has very dubious feedback themselves.

Put it this way, I'm somewhat very very tempted especially when eBay's got it's Buyer's Protection (is this new? Seems the banner is new)!

But I still want grey :(

Edit: That was quick, no sooner than me completing this post "someone" with the same number of ratings as the seller bought the remaining 6 in one shot. Yep, I guess it was dodgy afterall. No chance to even test eBay's Buyer's Protection :D.
