I actually got one 10 days after I decided I wanted one.

How? persistence.

I simply called more or less all the leica dealers in the US. They all said out of stock, but then I called again and again.

After 10 days a store in New Jersy called and said they had one in stock. I just hopped on a train the following day and got it, luckily Im only in NY ;)

That means common sense does not apply:rolleyes::D

Y'know, Jaap, as one of my ex-mother-in-laws used to say, the strange thing about commonsense is that it is not all that common...

Whatever happened to sangfroid? It's certainly in short supply around here ;)

Regards,

Bill

All,

I am going to say goodbye to Leica. Enough of waiting for the M9. Life is short. I will dumping the rest of my Leica gears in the Bay soon.

Have been a nice few years with you guys. Sorry for being negative in the last 2 months.

Enjoy and take care,

Arthur

Hey, whatever floats your boat. But you'll feel exactly the same way when Nikon or Canon announce their next bag of tricks and it then takes them 6-9 months to get it to market. I suppose Leica did it the wrong way around, made the product available to a few on 09/09/09 and then took six to nine months to fulfil the initial demand...

BTW, I still do not get what it is that turns people inside out at the present. So, it has a full frame sensor and possibly 1-2 EV better sensitivity. How exactly does that mean you need to trash your M8? Its the glass that counts (imho) and you'll never get that with another camera system no matter how quickly they churn out their products.

Gee!

You had a chance to visit us in Vancouver, a stonethrow from Seattle, and you decided against the M9?

Do I understand that owing to the longtime association with Midlands (Ontario, my Province), you are determined to boycott Canada and Leica alltogether?

Hopefully some of your fellow Oregonians will prove you wrong!

Are you saying that not having Nike shoes the legendary Marathonian was a loser?

Shame on you!

Bill, we are in Seattle, not France. We have cold rain in our veins here.

Rick, all I know about Seattle I have learned from watching "Frasier"... ;)

Edit: I now have a vision of Arthur 'phoning in to a certain radio show...

Regards,

Bill

Louis,

As an owner of an M8 and M9 (not gloating, just stating the facts), I couldn't agree more!

Ok, Seattle is in Washington and not Oregon. Nike is likewise in Oregon. And the "Marathonian" you refer to must be Steve Prefontaine, also of Oregon, and he was a mid-distance runner, not a marathon runner.

Wow, some people won't even let a guy leave without being rude to him. They have to give him a kick on the way out the door. Rudeness on the internet is still rudeness. Some people apparently can't wait for opportunities to be more rude, or to turn the rudeness up to a new level. :)

I second that. I am sorry to see anyone frustrated.

I felt the same way and decided to take a different approach. I contacted the camera shop I purchased my D3 from and asked how long of a wait list they had for the M9. There were approximately 15 people on the list and the largest deposit was $1000. I offered to pay upfront and of course they gladly accepted. In turn they bumped me up to the top of their list and contacted the Leica rep to let him know they had a “payed in full M9 order.” The next camera the Leica rep. received was sold to me. It took about 1 1/2 weeks to get the camera from the time I paid. I realize not a typical scenario, but worth a try if you really want one. I placed the order with Hunt’s Photo, a large camera chain in the Northeast. I hope this helps!

I am not sure you did this dealer a favor by naming them. They may have laid out the rule to everyone that if you pay upfront, you move to the top of the list. If so, fine. But I'd be pretty mad if I were on the list and people were jumping ahead of me if I everyone wasn't given the same opportunity and notice.

Three or four times I have felt like cancelling my order for my M9. Not because I have to wait for it, but more of pre-buyer’s remorse. After all $7K is a lot of money for a retired person. When I feel like this I do like I did yesterday. I take my M6 out and shoot a roll of film. I then take it to Target to drop it off and wait to pick it up the next day.

When it comes back, I pick it up the order and take it home and scan the negatives. I then work them over in Photoshop and reprint what I want. After doing all of this, I revisit my decision to order the M9 and reaffirm that I made the right decision. Thirty-two days and counting.

Wow, I'll be sure to avoid them. I'm sure glad I wasn't on a list at a dealer who would bump me down the list just because someone offered cash up front.

This is a typical example how emotionally attached Leica users are. We feel rejected by our sweetheart if something goes wrong with our Leica equipment. :D

However, I wouldn't give up on Leica. It's just started to become fun again with the M9.
