MHK Posted February 2, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted February 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone had any trouble transferring files directly from the M9 to a Mac via a USB cable? When I try and do this, the camera freezes after the 2nd or third image on the card attempts to transfer. If I use a card reader, no issues whatsoever. I have tried switching SD cards to one of the compatible cards listed by Leica, and I still have the issue. Any thoughts appreciated.

USB doesn't seem to work reliably on the M9. Leica needs to fix that. Â Too bad the eye-fi card is not compatible either with the M8, according to the manufacturer's website. http://support.eye.fi/product-info/camera-compatability/compatibility/is-the-eye-fi-card-compatible-with-my-camera/leica/ I would think something similar applies to the M9? stunsworth Posted February 2, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted February 2, 2010 Use a card reader, faster, more reliable, and it works.

jonoslack Posted February 2, 2010 Share #5 Â Posted February 2, 2010 Hi MHK There is a well documented bug . . . Leica are apparently aware of it, and I would imagine that it will be fixed in the first firmware update. Â in the meantime - use a card reader! Double Negative Posted February 2, 2010 Share #6 Â Posted February 2, 2010 I typically use Adobe's "Photo Downloader" which is part of Bridge. I launch it via the Dock, but it requires a little "hacking" to get to directly (outside of Bridge). Â Right click on the "Adobe Bridge" application, select "Show Package Contents" from the contextual menu. Drill down into "MacOS" and there you will see "Photo Downloader." Just drag it to your Dock. Â Or - a card reader.
likalar Posted February 2, 2010 Share #7 Â Posted February 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) +1 for the cardreader. One downside, though, is grabbing the camera for an outing, then finding out later the card reader still holds the card at home. I've done that 3 times now. I'm going to try to remember to leave the bottom plate off when the card is out of the camera. Â Larry

The little plastic door for the USB cable looks as fragile as that on the M8: another reason why it's far better to use card reader. It's not that much trouble and you avoid any download glitches. tom in mpls Posted February 3, 2010 Share #9  Posted February 3, 2010 M9 tells you if no card present when you switch on – no? Yes. But when one is away from home and ready to shoot and that message appears, one feels a complete and utter fool, not to mention helpless because you can't take any pics. MHK Posted February 3, 2010 Author Share #10 Â Posted February 3, 2010 At least I am glad to hear that it is a common issue. Sounds like the card reader is the way to go until a fix with the firmware. But, what a pain, to have to remember to bring a reader with me when I travel! Just use Apple's native app Image Capture and do not set the USB mode of the M9 to mass storage. Works great.

Leica Compatibility Table  A good look at that website suggests that they used a M8 with old - not SDHC compatible - firmware. There is a whole page explaining the diffenerce between Sd and SDHC.  Or is it the fact that the M8 house is metal and not plastic

Any idea how to reset the automatic settings so that App Image Capture comes up when the camera is plugged in rather than Aperture?

You run Image Capture, go to Preferences and select which application should be run when a camera is connected.
MacSpikes Posted February 5, 2010 Share #19 Â Posted February 5, 2010 You run Image Capture, go to Preferences and select which application should be run when a camera is connected. Â You can also use "Cameras" from Flexibits. It chooses the App you want for each camera you have.
