jmr Posted July 7, 2006 Share #3 Posted July 7, 2006 Rainer, I like the way the background blur and the figure heading away from camera contribute to the depth of the shot.
stuny Posted July 7, 2006 Share #4 Posted July 7, 2006 Rainer - A lovely and soulful portrait with lush tones. For my tastes, though, I'd crop the moving figure on the right. Stuart
rainer_p Posted July 7, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted July 7, 2006 ...thanks for your inputs guys. this is what I like most about those leica lenses, the fact that it really separates the different plans. Stuart, you know what? I was waiting for the person to walk into the frame in purpose and just gave her a bit less attention in the print by exposing the entier part about 30% more. In fact I like movement around street portraits and other people just ARE part of street life. This is just my opinion and respect yours of course best regards. p.s other street portraits on my website http://perso.orange.fr/rainer.pawellek
tomparis Posted July 7, 2006 Share #6 Posted July 7, 2006 Salut Rainer, yes, the girl needs to be there! Adds tension, contrast, depth to the image. And I think it shows the street musician's life: people walking by all day long... Bien vu! Thomas
rainer_p Posted July 7, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted July 7, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Merci Tom, You are totally right about the indifference that ppl have for some folks. Guest Bernd Banken Posted July 8, 2006 Share #10 Posted July 8, 2006 Rainer, a beautyful moment frozen in silver ;-) Without knowing the scene behind your back, I guess it was a quiet area with not so many pedestrians? Do you have another shot where we can see the typical accessories like instrument bag or the famous hat with coins? Best Regards Bernd

Guest menze_as Posted July 8, 2006 Share #12 Posted July 8, 2006 Hi Rainer, #1 is best I think - I like the "far away" glance in his eyes ... also #2, from the view of the player. Important the persons being present but not listening. #3 is good too, esp. with the man right-handed, but with a background too unquiet... and the player's expression isn't that good as in #1. Guest imported_stefan_r Posted July 8, 2006 Share #13 Posted July 8, 2006 hello Rainer, I have my problems with his picture, in the emotional part and also in the technical part. his expression looks staged, he knows that somebody is taking a picture now. just wait until he is relaxed again and take a picture then, or make a portrait. I don’t like your print, you have two pictures now, the right one (1) is much darker then the left part (2) you can avoid this burning also the part (2). in your composition the woman in the back is not needed (5), she gets too much attention... my eyes are wandering from him to her, again and again... if you want to have her in the picture, just take it when she walks into the picture. also you can add more tension cropping the music instrument (3). leave him more space in the down part (4). Guest imported_stefan_r Posted July 8, 2006 Share #15 Posted July 8, 2006 in your second picture I get the feeling that the wall and that fountain pillar are very dominating, coming out of his head. the man in the right is not needed, since it looks like that you have taken a portrait of him. for my taste there is too much dof here. also I get the feeling that his face is underexposed. best Stefan
rainer_p Posted July 8, 2006 Author Share #16 Posted July 8, 2006 ...thganks for looking, appreaciating and the constructive suggestions. I have to say that those are "reading prints", I mean devloped in a single shot with out searching burning and dodeing under the enlarger. I like, just as you Stefan, my prints look as they show up on the computer screen and thatfor I didn't bother to retouch those photos in photoshop. All what has been done to this shots and said, I appreaciate alot and thank you for that. It'll help for more meaningful prints even if those are not ment to be further to be worked on or maybe just for a present to the musician...... Thanks again all
