Actually of all the Visoflex write-ups, in your chart is the first time I had seen a OTSRO.I don't know what it's for exactly, but I placed an order for one. When it arrives I will find out.

I do a fair amount of close focus, but so far I have not attempted to use the 135 directly on the Visoflex. Normally I use the bellows.

The only thing I could think of is the OTSRO is for the Hektor and the OTRPO is for the Elmar/Tele-Elmar. I look forward to hearing the result of your researches.

Wilson,

Beautiful setup.

I gotta say, Im not sure what surprises me more, the fact Leica made a 560mm with a visio for the M series and that it still will work with today's M.

OR the that SO many people know so much about this.

Im not really into collecting lenses, but this is soo cool that one could be tempted just to have one. :D

KEH had the following info:

• 16464K/OTZFO UNIVERSAL FOCUS MOUNT CHROME

• 16471/OTRPO CHROME EXT TUBE (USE WITH 16464) and

• 16472/OTSRO EXT TUBE (135 LENS HEAD TO UNIVERSAL FOCUS MOUNT)

I think the difference is that the Novoflex is laid out for a doublehanded grip. The right hand takes the front grip with the shutter button, the left hand the focussing grip. So squeeze the lens ito focus with the left hand and release by applyng the right index finger. Extremely stable and a lot better than the single grip Leica system. Now if I could only find a 600 mm lenshead for the rig...:(

Here is a shot with the lens still rigged with an electric release . For the Visoflex I obviously use the cable release, which is still available through Novoflex.

It just dawned on me- do you walk around any major cities with this...and don't land in jail? Would love to see if it makes it though security at an airport.

My wife has ordered me a T shirt with the words on it "Please Mr. Policeman don't shoot me - this is only a camera lens not a rocket launcher" to wear when I am using my 560 Telyt/Televit with pistol grip and shoulder stock.

You might have even more problems with the older set up! It was designed for the 1936 Olympics to compete with the 180mm Olympic Sonnar of Zeiss Contax. The Televit would have been improved a lot if it had a second trigger on the pistol grip to release the shutter.

It took me 30 minutes to get my Nikon 200 f2 through Canadian security- they claimed it didn't look like a photographic lens. Maybe it is easier to just claim them as firearms and have them locked and put in the cargo hold!

wlaidlaw- yours is literally scary. Adds a new level of understand to "honey, I just went out and shot a few...."

After seeing blog items about arrests in London, I would steer clear.

You may be right. I have:

• 16464K/OTZFO UNIVERSAL FOCUS MOUNT CHROME

• 16471/OTRPO CHROME EXT TUBE (USE WITH 16464)

• 16472/OTSRO EXT TUBE and

• 135/4 Tele-Elmar

The 135/4 Tele-Elmar head fits in the 16471/OTRPO but not in the 16472/OTSRO.

The 16472/OTSRO fits either in the 16464K/OTZFO or the 16471/OTRPO.

So, these seem to be the possibilities:

Visoflex III - 6464K/OTZFO - 16471/OTRPO - 135/4 Tele-Elmar head

Visoflex III - 6464K/OTZFO - 16471/OTRPO - 16472/OTSRO - ?

Visoflex III - 6464K/OTZFO - 16472/OTSRO - ?

Also the back of the 16471/OTRPO cannot be attached to the front of the 16472/OTSRO.

The front of the 16472/OTSRO has 2 engravings, namely 1:4/135 and 1:4.5/135.

I have been looking at adding a 135mm to my lineup. Unfortunately I know little about this focal length on a Leica M. Thinking of buying used since it will not be used heavily. In surveying the on line offerings, there is a large range of price. What would be a reasonable price for this lens in excellent or mint condition. I have bought and sold many very expensive lenses, but this one has me baffled. Any help or guidance (including a different lens to look at) would be appreciated.

I just got one from Adorama (built 1966) for $389.00.

Almost "mint" - glass is clean (after cleaning it :)).

Most amazingly despite what I read the focus appears dead-on. So I am happy....

Congrats, Michael. I picked mine up in Excellent condition from KEH, and it appears near mint. I cleaned the glass surfaces with microfiber, and amazingly, mine to seemed to be perfectly adjusted for my M9's focus. It is a lovely lens to shoot with and now is part of a 35/75/135 kit....

Best,

Ashwin

  • 3 weeks later...

I wanted to see how the 135 TE performs on a Nikon D3.

The following images were shot with Nikon D3, LEICA M-AI adapter, Leitz 16464K/OTZFO UNIVERSAL FOCUS MOUNT, and Leitz 135mm f/4 Tele-Elmar lens head. The first image also had a circular polarizer attached.

High resolution versions of the images can be found here: http://winklers.smugmug.com/KHW/Pics-by-Date/2010-03-08-JMountain-Spotlight/2010-03-0817-33-37-D3-135mm-f4/807482760_9cvY8-O.jpg and here: http://winklers.smugmug.com/KHW/Pics-by-Date/2010-03-10-SMountain-Spotlight/2010-03-1017-33-21-D3-135mm-f4/807484681_DPTz9-O.jpg

Of course, the TE also performs great on my M9, either as an M lens directly attached or via a Visoflex III.

This is my 'BUNDESWEHR' Mk 1 135mm Tele-Elmar

.. don't have a hood for it unfortunately.

Cheers

dunk

The Tele-Elmarit uses the 12575 hood. This is also used by all 90mm lenses with a 39mm filter size, and is still being manufactured for the Macro-Elmar. Just ask Leica for it.
