Best M8/M9 combination.

If you shoot with both the M8 and M9 what would be your favorite 2 lens combination? I've been thinking about this and come to the conclusion that the 21 Summilux and the 50 Summilux would be the best combo for getting the best out of both cameras.

I would keep the 21 'lux on my M8 for street shooting (acting like a 28mm 'lux and therefore unique) and then keep the 50 'lux on my M9 - just because it would be gorgeous for portraiture and so on. Then if I wanted to shoot wide I could mount the 21 'lux on the M9 and have a unique wide lens.

Also if traveling I would have a backup camera if one of the other cameras had to be sent to Solms.

Good plan I think. Now where is my credit card?:)

You might get better response posting this on the M9 forum. Users there seem more likely to own both cameras. Well, just my logic, Logic108.

There have been other posts, however, discussing problems shifting between cameras (filters, etc.)...many choosing to stick with the M9 and keeping the M8 only as back-up.

I just own the M8.2, but have thought about your question as part of my consideration to get another M8.2 as back-up, or eventually get an M9 (or M10). I don't like external finders, and don't want to add lenses, so my options would include use of 28, 35, 50 and 75...although the latter might end up getting traded for a 90.

I use both cameras for daily news work and usually have the 28-35-50 Tri-Elmar on the M9 and the 16-18-21 Tri-Elmar on the M8.2 - unless I want the really wide 16 then I'll switch it to the M9. If I want a bit longer I use the MATE on the M8.2 for its crop factor. I makes it easier to capture fluid situations.

when using 8.2 and 9 together I tend keep the elmarit 90 on the 8.2 as I like that extra bit of reach it gives. On the M9 I tend to use the 50 lux or 35 cron most of the time but it really depends on what I'm doing. For example yesterday while doing some walk around shots and I had the WATE on the 8 and 50 lux or 35 cron on the 9

I have both cameras, but use only the M9.

In your situation I will have the 28/2 and 50/1,4 Asph. (= 28/37/50/66m).

Because they were the only lenses that I liked on the M8.

If it was M9 only + 2 lenses, it will be 35/2 and 75/2.

Interesting that people are using their M8's and M9's together. I couldn't imagine the 1.33x crop confusing things that much. Seems like two cameras is ideal.

If you follow my suggestion to do a search of prior threads, you'll find a much more diverse view than that generated from your question, which is directed at those using the two together.

Here's but one...http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/112107-feeling-m9-vs-m8u-2.html While other things are discussed, you'll find many posts that speak to your point about simultaneous use...some using both, some preferring two M8s, and some migrating to just M9. And, even for those with both, working methods differ.
