alun Posted January 29, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 29, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) This has probably been done to death in other threads but does anyone use a metal vented 12504 with a Summicron 35/2 v.4 instead of the 'correct' rectangular 12524? There is of course no sensible reason to do so, if one already has the 12524, but I have always wanted one of those vented metal hoods -- simply for their looks -- and see a chance to do so for my 35/2 v.4. The 35/2 v.4 of course has two cut-outs in which the 12524 seats and the 12504 won't fit these... But then I noticed in a product photo the other day that the custom anthracite hood that came with the Leica MP & 35/2 ASPH anthracite kit uses a repro of the 12504 design and this doesn't fit into the cut-outs on the later ASPH 35/2 either... So I guessed it might be OK. Obviously, the 12504 is hard to find and costs more and given this I wouldn't bother if it either (a) didn't work at least as well as the rectangular hood, or ( might fall off. Anyone know? Many thanks.

doubice Posted January 29, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 29, 2010 The 12504 fits perfectly, as does the metal 12585. The latter one is actually my favourite - dates back to the 1960's and is solid as a rock. Best, Jan
alun Posted January 29, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted January 29, 2010 Jan, Thanks. Is that the 12585H -- or does the 'H' denote yet another variant?
doubice Posted January 29, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 29, 2010 Jan, Thanks. Is that the 12585H -- or does the 'H' denote yet another variant? Hello Alun, Both are identical hoods. Leitz dropped the letters from their part numbers during the later years. Best, Jan

alun Posted January 30, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted January 30, 2010 Jan, Luigi -- thanks. I'm very tempted. And as a treat a vintage lens hood is certainly cheaper than another lens.....
Craftsman Posted January 30, 2010 Share #7 Posted January 30, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use the 12504 lens hood. It's a two part hood the screws apart and takes the series V11 filters. i pick one up on ebay in mint condition but was a bit pricey.
Carl E Posted January 31, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 31, 2010 I also use a 12504, first on a 35/2 IV (which I sold) and now on a 28/2,8 ASPH on a M8 body. I like the retro look of the metal hood. Carl
