lagrassa Posted January 28, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 28, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Leica branded battery is quite expensive and it seems to made in China anyway. What are most folks using for a second spare battery to have on hand? It seems those really cheap Chinese batteries can be bought for very little, but how long will they last? I guess if they are cheap enough you might not care. I ran across one battery that claimed to have "Japan" cells that were midway in price between the Chinese el cheapos and the Leica. Any thoughts? Thanks.

zenonzinonos Posted January 28, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 28, 2010 Hi Lagrassa I purchased 2 extra batteries from the UK site of Amazon for under $10 each last March. They are identical to the original Leica battery except for the wording Leica which is missing, and have been as reliable - they charge as quickly and last as long in the camera, so I have no regrets. Besides, at $5 each, who's complaining? Zenon
zenonzinonos Posted January 28, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 28, 2010 Correction : "$5" should read "5 Pounds" Zenon
AlbertoDeRoma Posted January 28, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 28, 2010 I bought 2 Lenmar (I think that's the name) $20/each at a retail store and, as far as I can tell, they've been working just as well as the real McCoy. Alberto
Jark89 Posted January 29, 2010 Share #5 Posted January 29, 2010 I haven't purchased an extra battery yet, but if/when I do, I think I'm going to go with this one from Adorama: ADCGAS005ABPDC4 Adorama Replacement Lithium Ion Battery for Panasonic CGA-S005A, Ricoh DB-60, Leica D-Lux 3 and Leica D-Lux 4 Digital Camera Battery, 3.7v, 1250mAH
lagrassa Posted January 29, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted January 29, 2010 I was thinking of this one. It is a 1300 mAh high capacity. Karlumix Posted January 29, 2010 Share #7 Posted January 29, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Adorama's aftermarket spare battery has worked well for the past 8 months. I can not tell any difference in capacity, charge time, or anything else from the Leica original. A few years ago, I purchased a Lenmar replacement for an older Panasonic FZ-10, but that was not very good. Capacity was significantly lower than the original Panasonic battery and after a few months it swelled up to where it wedged into the battery compartment requiring tools to pull it out. gabriel Posted February 21, 2010 Share #11 Posted February 21, 2010 I use Pasonic CGA 5005E which is intended for the Panasonic LX3 camera aka DLux4. This is about half the price of the Leica branded product and I have no qualms concerning quality or suitability

krandall Posted February 23, 2010 Share #13 Posted February 23, 2010 B&H Photo offers a combination of a nice fitted leather case (it doesn't say "Leica" on the front, but maybe that's not a bad thing when you are out in public!!!) AND a spare battery for @ $50. (I think the Leica battery alone is about $70, isn't it?) I love the case and haven't had any trouble with the battery. I really wanted the Leica camera vs. the Panasonic version, but I was perfectly happy to go a little cheaper on the case and extra battery.
jankap Posted February 23, 2010 Share #14 Posted February 23, 2010 The Leica branded battery is quite expensive and it seems to made in China anyway. 25 years ago colleagues of mine discovered, that computer keyboards - made in Taiwan - were 10 times cheaper than in Europe. After some deliveries it was necessary to install a test facility to sort out the ones, that were not according to the quality requirements. There was - long ago - an advertising: if quality decides, take Leica. Jan
