I just sold an old Tele-Elmar-M 4/135 I was not using, and the buyer sent me some test shots done with an Olympus, and comparing it to a Pentax lens and also a japanse zoom lens.

I was stunned to see how evident differences in optical performance is. Of course, low resolution files in a screen cannot tell the whole story here, but the shots made with the Elmar are really razor sharp.

This is a lot of lens for very little money!

If these are digital images, was the same body used for all of them? Or the same film? The cheap zoom is clearly inferior, but the difference between the Elmar and the Takumar looks as if it could be the difference between an M8 and a K-mount DSLR.

I had one for years and sold it because I wasn't using it much. Then I looked back at some of the shots I had taken in prior years, realized what originally attracted me to it, and bought another. You're right...it really is sharp...I occasionally use the removable lenshead on my DSLR.

The same Olympus body was used for all photos. The difference is much more clearly to be seen using high definition files. The Tele-Elmar is razor sharp wide open and the Pentax lens is very clearly inferior. The difference will probably be reduced when stopping down, but I don`t have any proof available.
