The Original Kodak (1888) also had a self cocking shutter (barrel design, after pulling the string). In this photo, the two finally meet. I think Eastman would have been proud of the union. People will some day marvel at our now much cherished M9 as a curiosity; perhaps casting pitying gazes it's way. That Kodak was indeed a marvel. A photographer who is a Canon freak came to see me about a project the other day. My M9 was sitting on the coffee table, he asked me what I was doing with such an old camera!!!! I tried to explain to this Philistine that this "old camera" had a larger sensor than his latest Canon 1D Mark IV which he was proudly lugging about. steve70 Posted January 27, 2010 Share #10 Posted January 27, 2010 Hi Larry, I think that the photo you posted is amzing in one major respect, and that is that it makes a stark reminder that it is NOT the equipment that makes the photograph, but istead it's the mind's eye looking through the viewfinder. One only has to look at the photos of A. Langdon Coburn or other great photographers from the turn of the century to see that. They were limited by the best technology of the times, such as that Kodad in your photo. No light meters, slow films and no lenses save the ones attached to the camera, and most at best had only a choice of a couple of f stops, but yet look at what they were able to create!
