Reiner,

Like you I -REALLY- like this lens a lot, just reposting a shot from the landscape dept. This lens is the one I keep grabbing for a quick walk on the street or a portrait shoot. Actually talking portraits, I loooove how it glows a little on hairs and fine details, its perfect for portraits.

The 50mm 1.1 have a very distinctive signature, with some grittyness to the defocused areas.

One of the stereo equipment companies NAS I think, used to advertise "Champange and Caviar, for bear and hot-dog prices", this applies pretty well to the nokton 1.1 - the 50mm 1.1 really is putting the wide-open option in the hands of shooters who never would have taken a second look at a noct, personally I think this is a great thing, because Im pretty sure there is more talent in aggressive young shooters than in most of the worlds camera collectors.

100% detail, I love the dirty bokeh of the Voigtlander 50mm 1.1 there is just a little noise in it.

This one seems to have greater crispness than the others. Aperture?

I like the Nokton, but really keep searchiing for one plane of focus to come into definition. It might be there at 1.4, or maybe some of us are just destined for the 'lux as an alternative. Curiouslly the 50 cron does some good, where the f2 isn't so fast, but I get a deeper plane of focus, and thus don't miss my target. Different horses for different courses.

But thanks for these. They are sweet shots.

Thanks to those who posted pics with this lens as it is a lens I've been considering for some time. Other user tests of this lens did not fault its sharpness as one of the tests I read compared the lens to the Noct F1 and the CV was sharper wide open. I suspect some of the differences that are seen have to do with CV's quality control which, due to their tolerances vs. Leica's, tend to be inconsistent. I used to sell the CV lenses and results varied from lens to lens and it is really best to have a dealer that you can go to and try out the lens you want to buy. Sadly I don't and have been reluctant to trust an internet purchase not knowing what will show up.

This image has a definite 3D quality to it. Excellent. I suspect many of us would love to own a Noctilux but it is simply too prohibitive. It's great to have excellent alternatives at affordable prices. The M8 is a great performer regardless of Leica glass or not.

The Nokton is weeker than most Leica clases. But the resolution is good. So perhaps you must sharpen a little bit more in the PS than with most Leica lenses. But for me it works well on digital. Still I have to check it with film. But one you can say: It is not like a Leica-Asph-lense. And it is also for that I like it.

It iks 1.1, it performes well for me. Sure, it is not a Noctilux 1.2, 1.0 or 0.95. But I think it could be an interresting and affordable alternative to Leicas Noctilux for a lot of people here.

It's not only a lower-cost alternative: it renders very differently from the Noctiluxes. I own both a Nocti 1.0 and the Nokton 1.1 and have kept the latter for this very reason.

From the pictures I've seen posted, the Nocti 0.95 looks sharper than both the above, but this comes at the expense of some character, at least IMH, and very subjective, opinion.

The good news is that we Leica users are spoilt for choice in this area. To each his own...

Offshore,

The 50mm 1.1 is sharp, but it is also subject to more scattered light because of the huge lens, so the contrast is lower, you can make it pop by adding a "S" curve giving the image a little more contrast.

.

Thanks Bo, I currently use an FD Canon 55 mm F1.2 converted to M and I use the same solution to bump it up a bit as it is also a lower contrast lens.

  • 2 weeks later...

Reiner,

I got also one toy like yours today... with the LH-7 vented lens hood and a 58mm Heliopan UV/IR filter (1006,00 € including 30€ for Chronopost service). It should arrive tomorrow or ofter tomorrow the latest.

I'm looking forward to take some pictures with it!

PS: You said 8-bit coding is not necessary with this lens. On EXIF is recognized as a 50mm lens and no vignetting or IR color issues when not coded, that's correct?

Viel Spaß :D:eek::D

Congrats. I'm sure you will like it. Without coding it is not recognized, but there is no IR-issue and no vignetting.

I'll code it then with a Sharpie ;)

Ondo ibilli eta gero arte ;)
