If you are prepared to walk away from St Mark's and Rialto for 10 minutes, you can find things much more reasonable and much better quality. Have a look at my links back on page 1 for my suggestion as to where to eat in the evening. They are used to catering for large numbers all at once - just don't forget to bring your dog collar or brown habit ;)

Elsewhere, I have suggested that we meet at Caffe Florian for coffee in the morning, but that might just blow the whole catering budget for the weekend :)

Anyway guys, if you don't need a posh hotel, Venice may be quite unexpensive.

Every time I went there I booked my rooms for as low as 50-60€ for night (sometimes including breakfast).

The best place to stay at for logistic and prices is the "Cannaregio", the old jewish ghetto, in the north-western part of the town.

It's a ten minutes walk to Piazza San Marco, and I could suggest you this website for booking:

Hotel Venezia - Offerte Hotel Venezia

Let me know what you think.

I guess we could save some money for the dinner :)

Suggestion for dinner:

"Vecio Fritolin" +/- €55 each

"Vini da Gigio" €60

"Corte Sconta" €65

"Al covo" €70

"Al Fontego dei Pescatori" €55

"Franz" €70

Ciao,

Maurizio

We usually try to get away with something less than 55 Euros... ;)

No problem!

I'll check for a 50€ meal... :)

Actually, I know that 55€ is not a cheap meal for sure, but given the quality, in this case it is.

Anyway, once we get there I'll try and search something cheaper for us all... Do we have an idea of the number of people meeting up?

booked and confirmed:

L'Imbarcadero, Santa Croce, 1268, (Calle Zen), Venice, Italy 30135

getting there on a nighttrain, accomodation in a 6 bed-dorm, leaving by train (venice->dresden 29,25€) - that saves the euros for a second caffé at Florian, even if the band is playing ;)
