It's a shame, because the camera is one that could benefit from tethered shooting. I know of no work-around. JT

Obtain and load on the new partition a copy of the compatible original Mac OS listed on the Digilux 2 CD; then install the application "Leica USB Remote Control" on the newly created partition and use this to take photographs by remote control. Good Luck ! David
andybarton Posted January 20, 2010 Share #5 Posted January 20, 2010 Nice idea, but the newer iMac may not run on the 5 year old OS. You might be able to get it to work by installing Parallels, then Windows XP, and installing the Windows version of the remote control software. lesh Posted January 20, 2010 Share #7 Posted January 20, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Interesting - I was curious to try this with my LC1. I'm unable to get the Leica Remote application to run on various pre-Intel Macs, however I've been able to do so on an old PowerBook. It's a Pismo - like the D2/LC1 it's a bit of a classic in it's field - ours is 'souped up' with a G4 processor. I keep it handy as a backstop when all the other machines are in use, but stopped installing updates after OS X 10.4 Under that setup the Leica remote application runs, but doesn't 'see' my LC1. The problem seems to be that the LC1 doesn't have an option for 'USB Remote Control Mode' in the Setup menu. It offers two options under USB mode - maybe someone can confirm that the D2 offers more. Anyway perhaps there's another alternative in there for those with a D2. It may be worth trying on a slightly newer PowerBook which has the combination of the benefit of high speed USB 2.00, and is running OS X 10.
Overgaard Posted January 21, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 21, 2010 Well, before anybody try too hard, the software didn't work back then either after the first Apple update after the release. I never got it to work and never had on new or old Macs. I don't know if any third part software can be used for remote shooting of cameras. Would be nice if someone had developed such a software because camera producers tend to forget updating software (especially after the camera has ceased to be produced). charlie_c Posted January 21, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted January 21, 2010 hi folks, thanks for the useful replies - sounds as if this is a waste of time even trying to get it working on the macbook. has anyone got the remote to work on xp? may have to resurrect an old pc (remember those?) to do my time-lapse project. thanks again, charlie. lesh Posted January 21, 2010 Share #10 Posted January 21, 2010 After studying the D2 User Manual, it seems clear that the D2 has a 'Remote Control' USB mode option under the setup menu. Sadly (for me) the LC1 does not have that option. The Leica website still has available for download the Remote Control software - two versions are available - one for those using Mac OS X 10.2 or 3 the other for those on 10.4. It might be interesting if someone could give it a shot and report on the results. Anyone? As the brochure says.......... Software for wide ranging possibilities The LEICA DIGILUX 2 has very useful software : For studio or lab photography, all functions can be controlled with a PC or a Mac by means of a USB connection. In addition, there is a preview window, a histogram and an interval setting, with which the number of images is limited only by the capacity of the hard disk of the computer that is being used. lesh Posted January 22, 2010 Share #12 Posted January 22, 2010 Ah well, pity about that.......could have been an interesting little extra feature to play with. But of course it already over performs. Thanks for trying John.
jobjob Posted July 5, 2010 Share #13 Posted July 5, 2010 Take an old XP Laptop for 50 Bugs from the bay and you can work with the software. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/130786-hd-time-laps-test-digilux-2-a.html

I tried various things on my Intel Mac but to no avail. The software installed fine on the Mac, but crashed when trying to start it up. It works perfectly in XP Pro sp3. I wouldn't waste time trying to get it going on your Mac. If Thorsten Overgaard says it never worked on Mac... so then you can pretty much bet that's the case. chouhsin Posted October 13, 2010 Share #15 Posted October 13, 2010 Does anyone here know how to decode a USB conversation? Maybe we can write our own remote control program for MacOS 10.5.

charlie_c Posted November 15, 2010 Author Share #17 Posted November 15, 2010 hi MPerson, so I was able to play with the digilux 2 on windows on a broken old laptop. which has now broken. So I am trying your 'crossover' solution. downloaded it - it looks pretty cool. I can get the app running, but does not seem to recognize the digilux as a ub device when I plug it in. can you remember what steps you took to get it working? thanks, Charles. MPerson Posted November 16, 2010 Share #18 Posted November 16, 2010 Charles - I just installed it under Crossover. Connected the D2 with the USB cable, fired up Crossover, chose the program and switched the camera on.
charlie_c Posted December 5, 2010 Author Share #19 Posted December 5, 2010 thanks for a the advice. is it really that simple? I just cannot get it to work on my macbook. I have got the digilux control app installed and running under CrossOver. But then when I plug the camera into usb - nothing. the 'Leica USB Remote Control' app just says 'Connect Camera to Computer'. cannot figure out what I am missing here. any hints? thanks, Charlie
