carylwithay Posted January 13, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) The surf was supposed to his over 30 feet today so i took my cameras and went to the beach. That pier is about 30 feet off the water. I used my M8 for this but i also had the DLX4 along. Caryl
Advertisement Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Hi carylwithay, Take a look here Extremely High surf in California. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
carylwithay Posted January 13, 2010 Author Share #2 Posted January 13, 2010 here is one with the DLux 4 Caryl
pauledell Posted January 14, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 14, 2010 Caryl, Very dramatic shots with great composition, gorgeous colors and excellent clarity. Looks like you had some surf spray on the D-Lux 4 with the speckled sky. Both would be candidates for b&w versions. Paul
carylwithay Posted January 14, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted January 14, 2010 Thank you Paul. I did get spray on the cameras and on my eyeglasses. Caryl
AlbertoDeRoma Posted January 14, 2010 Share #5 Posted January 14, 2010 Hi Caryl, I absolutely love the first photo! But the second one (DL4) looks quite noisy (at least the way it looks on the picture uploaded - which I know is compressed) and appears to have some strange color artifacts. The pixelation of the sky on top right is particularly noticeable. It looks like a ~100% crop - which might explain some of it. Don't get me wrong, I really like the composition - especially the "frozen" waves on the bottom right that remind me of some chinese paintings of waves, but the IQ does not seem to be there. I can't help thinking it might have looked a LOT better with the M8 - and I can't help wanting an M8/M9 :-). Alberto
carylwithay Posted January 14, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted January 14, 2010 Thank you Alberto. I shot each with each camera. I used the new HDR setting on the DLux 4 and it is quiet noisy and add extra color. Either i shall learn to use it right or I will not use it at all. We shall see. here is the same shot with the M8. AlbertoDeRoma Posted January 14, 2010 Share #7 Posted January 14, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you Alberto. I shot each with each camera. I used the new HDR setting on the DLux 4 and it is quiet noisy and add extra color. Ah, that explains it. As a DL4 owner myself, I was quite disappointed by the huge IQ difference between the DL4 and the M8 pictures. I haven't tried the HDR setting yet, but it does not look too promising ... perhaps with a difference and more static subject. I should visit the coast myself this week-end and do something similar to what you've done with the Digilux 2 and the D-Lux 4. Thanks, Alberto
pauledell Posted January 15, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 15, 2010 Caryl, The colors of the second shot look much more accurate from the M8 than the DL4. The surf has a green cast from the DL4 and near white from the M8. Is this real or the difference in cameras? And which is true? Paul
carylwithay Posted January 15, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted January 15, 2010 I have the HDR on Art and not standard so that is part of the color problem. The color on the DLux 4 is different from the M8 because of the lens. However my fiddling around made for the rather harsh effect on the DLux 4.
