Extremely High surf in California

Hi Caryl,

I absolutely love the first photo!

But the second one (DL4) looks quite noisy (at least the way it looks on the picture uploaded - which I know is compressed) and appears to have some strange color artifacts. The pixelation of the sky on top right is particularly noticeable. It looks like a ~100% crop - which might explain some of it.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the composition - especially the "frozen" waves on the bottom right that remind me of some chinese paintings of waves, but the IQ does not seem to be there. I can't help thinking it might have looked a LOT better with the M8 - and I can't help wanting an M8/M9 :-).

Thank you Alberto. I shot each with each camera. I used the new HDR setting on the DLux 4 and it is quiet noisy and add extra color. Either i shall learn to use it right or I will not use it at all. We shall see. here is the same shot with the M8.

Ah, that explains it. As a DL4 owner myself, I was quite disappointed by the huge IQ difference between the DL4 and the M8 pictures. I haven't tried the HDR setting yet, but it does not look too promising ... perhaps with a difference and more static subject.

I should visit the coast myself this week-end and do something similar to what you've done with the Digilux 2 and the D-Lux 4.

Thanks,

Alberto
