Gaboz Posted January 11, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 11, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I own a DIGILUX 2 a DIGILUX 3 and a DLUX 4 I bought the DLUX4 mainly for its copactness, design and lens quality. I am very satisfied with the overall performance but I am not happy with the amount of noise it creates in RAW recording. I have taken photos in the same conditions and with the same ISO value with all three cameras and the DLUX 4 always came last in terms of noise level in almost every ISO setting. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue or this issue is only specific to my camera instance?

I can only compare my Digilux 2 with my D-Lux 2 (that model has- i know- a higher noise then D-Lux 4). But I think that the problem results from the sensor size. Digilux 3 has Fourthirds Sensor (cropfactor 2, compared to the so-called "full-.format", and the Digilux 2 has a much smaller sensor; and finally the sensor of the D-Lux seires is smaller then the others mentioned. So of course the noise may higher when you compare. Also it may important that the digilux 2 has 5 Mpix, and the D-Lux 4 has 10(right?) Megapixel on a smaller sized sensor. Would be nice to see some fotos here to see the problem. Is very interesting!
AlbertoDeRoma Posted January 11, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 11, 2010 I agree with the other two posts. It would be great to see some of the comparison pictures you've taken. Several people here have one (or more) Digilux 2(s) and D-Lux 4. Alberto
ppolla Posted January 11, 2010 Share #5 Posted January 11, 2010 what firmware are you running on the DL4? ...there are some people that claim new firmware has increased noise levels... P
usayit Posted January 11, 2010 Share #6 Posted January 11, 2010 Dlux4 is like any P&S.... very small sensor with dense photo sites. You won't get good high ISO performance like you do with the larger sensor equipped cameras. What the Dlux4 does give you is a very fast lens... And what is interesting me: does the D-Lux 4 camera gives a more lower noise then other compact cameras with same sensor size at same ISO? Sure it is a little bit unfair to compare D-Lux 4 with APS-C Cams.
h00ligan Posted January 13, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 13, 2010 My experience is yes for sure, shooting jpeg... and in low light. In high light, as the op of this thread stated, there is a strange noise in thebright sky - without pixel peeping.
