gab3x Posted January 10, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am finally in the position to get an M8 (bye, bye beloved 5d:() but I need your help in finding me a good reputable dealer based in EU. My plan is to get an M8 (not 8.2) with two lenses - CV Ultron 28mm f2 and Nokton f1.1. My budget is 3000 to 3200 EUR. Could you please recommend a dealer you trust and please do let me know what you think of my lens choice? Is my budget realistic? Cheers. jaapv Posted January 10, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 10, 2010 Very tight, but you should be able toget in the ballpark with some searching around. There are so many good dealers. First find the camera and then ask on this forum about his reputation. Edit: I notice Martin Meister has a M8 for 1999,-- Euro.

gab3x Posted January 10, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted January 10, 2010 Thank you for tips so far. I will get in touch with the contacts provided tomorrow morning. I am so excited about the future and finally getting to fulfil my long-time wish. My back and shoulder are also looking forward to not having to bear the burden of three lenses and a relatively heavy body.
earleygallery Posted January 11, 2010 Share #6 Posted January 11, 2010 There's a dealer list on the Leica website (official Leica dealers only of course) Leica Camera AG - Dealer Locator Also the buy/sell forum here currently shows a number of M8's for sale. spylaw4 Posted January 11, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 11, 2010 New M8 (thus with full warranty and Passport) - £2299 Pre-owned M8s - £1699, £1799. IMHO you might be better concentrating on one Leica lens pre-owned from a good dealer rather than the two CVs you list - 35 Summicron ASPH for example. Remember the 1.33 crop factor! andybarton Posted January 11, 2010 Share #9 Posted January 11, 2010 Interesting that M8s are now cheaper, used, than some M7's, Brian. My M7 has appreciated about 30% since I bought it.
Pangur Ban Posted January 11, 2010 Share #10 Posted January 11, 2010 I've just sold my M7 and bought an M8 as the price difference had narrowed so much - the M8 ( a good one from a dealer with only about 1400 actuations) cost me about £400 on top of my M7. I got about £200 more for my M7 than I paid for it about three years ago. Still not quite sure I've done the right thing though - I did love my M7 a lot... gab3x Posted January 11, 2010 Author Share #11 Posted January 11, 2010 Again, thank you for all the god advice. I am particularly now considering getting a single Leica lens and not two CVs. 35 Summilux sounds perfect if I can find one within my budget. There seems to be one now available from 1968 - I assume lux are all good, even when 40yo? I did consider getting an M7 or M6 but have given up that idea as I need immediate gratification, I love the feeling of getting back home and anxiously wait for Aperture to load the catch of the day. Waiting to develop would drive me nuts. I live in the country side so getting film developed can't be done on the way home.
