GarethC Posted January 7, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 7, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'd like to send my M8 in to anywhere but Leica as they have a 3-4 week turnaround right now, anybody have any experience with any other companies? GarethC Posted January 7, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted January 7, 2010 After I don't know how many trips to Mexico and its beaches I have a fair amount of visible sand in the body around the mount, I dread to think what I have that's invisible to my eyes. It's a preventative measure so that I can put another 2lbs of sand in there for my next 5-10 visits.
Jeff S Posted January 7, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 7, 2010 Don Goldberg (DAG) or Sherry Krauter. A search on the forum will mention them frequently, and positively. Jeff
GarethC Posted January 7, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted January 7, 2010 Leica NJ seems to be the place to get it done. They won't share any of the software needed to DAG or the likes it seems. Great!!

He asked for places other than Leica. And, there are no software changes involved. Jeff

stunsworth Posted January 8, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 8, 2010 Is anyone other than Leica prepared to handle M8/9 bodies? Is three weeks really so long?
Jeff S Posted January 8, 2010 Share #9 Posted January 8, 2010 I decided to send Sherry Krauter an email....she answered within minutes. She only does film, since the testing machine required to do digital cost $75-80,000. Please ignore my prior misleading suggestions. Leica NJ seems the place to go. And, I agree, a few weeks is quite reasonable IMO. Jeff
gwelland Posted January 8, 2010 Share #10 Posted January 8, 2010 You might want to verify the 3-4 week estimates from NJ. I have 2 lenses there since early December just for coding and they quoted my dealer that they'd be done the last week of Feb That's pretty pathetic in my book. I also have a 28 'cron there for some other work since mid-December and haven't even got an estimate for that yet.
Ronazle Posted January 8, 2010 Share #11 Posted January 8, 2010 Hi, INRE Leica N.J. turnaround times. Since I bought my first M8 I have sent at least five items to Leica N.J.. In three cases the items went to Solms. In any event, Leica N.J. has never (some hyperbole, not in the past three years) returned my items in the time frame they set. On items they or Solms "fixed", the repairs/adjustments were fine. If you are in a hurry, wait awhile. Don't send your stuff unless you can afford the wait. ron

I can't afford the wait and it's not a full CLA I don't think. The electronics are fine. I would like it back sooner rather than later, Leica seem to suggest sooner but always end up later.
