AlbertoDeRoma Posted January 3, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been shooting (and becoming familiar) with the Digilux 2 for the last couple of weeks. When I look at the resulting pictures and compare them to some of the photos I've taken in the past with different cameras, the thing I like the most about the DL2 photos it is the "tonality" (if that's the right term) of the colors (and B&W shades.) As an amateur guitar player (and, ahem, audiophile) I've always paid attention to acoustic tone and now, it appears, I've come to appreciate visual tonality. To celebrate, I took a picture of my vintage Fender Stratocaster with emphasis on its two Tone knobs. The goal was to come up with a visual equivalent of the Strat tone I like and try to get - a combination of "bite" and "attack" (sharpness), with a bit of a rough edge (graininess) and an overall early-Van-Halen "brown tone". The "infinite pool" effect of the guitar body disappearing into total darkness was intentional - to reflect the relatively fast decay of the tone - and was made easier by the Strat's sunburst pain which gets gradually darker at the edges. I am pretty happy with the results and I thought fellow Digilux 2 fans might enjoy it. Comments and suggestions are always welcome of course. Alberto Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Hi AlbertoDeRoma, Take a look here Digilux 2 - It's all about the TONE. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
farnz Posted January 3, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 3, 2010 An interesting parallel between audio and visual tones and a very nice shot of your 'two-tone beige' Strat, Alberto. Pete.
daveleo Posted January 3, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 3, 2010 Alberto i am not going to gush about the D2 at the moment (i go on and on how i love it). but i will suggest you post this shot over on the photo forum, and ask for comments. in any case, here are mine: i hate "dead space" in a photo, but you have used it wonderfully here .... and you made it add to the image. i love geometry and you have tons of it here and it all balances out. the dropoff into that black infinity is perfect. the D2? = love it your photo? = beautiful. AlbertoDeRoma Posted January 3, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted January 3, 2010 An interesting parallel between audio and visual tones and a very nice shot of your 'two-tone beige' Strat, Alberto. Pete. Thanks Pete. This is my first attempt at trying to convey something more abstract with a set-up photograph as opposed to "capturing a moment." Thanks Daveleo, I am glad you like the "blackness". While I am pretty happy with the shot, it's still nowhere near what I can see in my mind's eye. But it's fun to have a specific challenge. MPJMP Posted January 4, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 4, 2010 You can almost taste that mint green pickguard. You should attempt the same shot with your D-Lux 4 and post it for comparison. -Mike
wparsonsgisnet Posted January 4, 2010 Share #9 Posted January 4, 2010 Nice shot, but looking at the tone controls it looks like a double exposure.
h00ligan Posted January 5, 2010 Share #10 Posted January 5, 2010 Nice shot, but looking at the tone controls it looks like a double exposure. What makes you say that - the graininess or the added depth of black on the right two knobs? _ I chalked the latter up to wear and usage of the guitar. curious. Stelyn Posted January 5, 2010 Share #11 Posted January 5, 2010 Nice image of your guitar. There's easily room for a number "11" on the volume knob, I wonder why they left it off?

AlbertoDeRoma Posted January 5, 2010 Author Share #14 Posted January 5, 2010 Nice image of your guitar. There's easily room for a number "11" on the volume knob, I wonder why they left it off? Probably because this guitar came our some 30 years before Spinal Tap . Alberto

wparsonsgisnet Posted January 5, 2010 Share #16 Posted January 5, 2010 It was a joke, because the tone knob is there two times. This is what happens when one is ignorant about guitars, of course.
