Advertisement Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Hi barnack, Take a look here Do You Use Everready Case. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
adan Posted January 2, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 2, 2010 I've broken cameras four times by dropping them (over 40 years) The one time one was in an everready case, it still broke. As a photojournalist who needs to work fast, I haven't used them since high-school. Digital makes them even more troublesome given the need for access to all angles of the camera (back, bottom, side). I would recommend one for the M9 if one doesn't need quick access and is anal about appearance, though. The baseplate paint definitely picks up scratches, chips and wear faster than the top 95% of the camera.
stunsworth Posted January 2, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 2, 2010 I haven't used one for decades.

mhoersch Posted January 2, 2010 Share #6 Posted January 2, 2010 How many of you use an everready case to protect your camera? The correct spelling of the word is "neverready case", that's why I never use one!
Ed_K Posted January 2, 2010 Share #7 Posted January 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Only briefly back in my "analogue film" days when i had my first camera but that was it, no more ever-ready case since then.
Balivernes Posted January 2, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 2, 2010 I use a Luigi half case, with the hinging back. On top of being beautiful, it really protects the screen and buttons from coat zippers, jean jacket studs, accidental manipulations, etc. I also like its anti-chimping side effect.... Never used such a case with the M6.
doug_m Posted January 3, 2010 Share #9 Posted January 3, 2010 Buy a Leica neoprene case with the large hood. They are great and relatively cheap- 75 USD or so. If you do not like it you are only out 75 bucks. They are a bit geeky but provide good basic protection and have space for 2 SD cards. Do not buy the regular size unless you will never use a Nocti, 75mm or 90mm or one of the wide angle lenses with large hoods. The large neoprene case is not too large for smaller lenses but the converse will not work out.
Frank Sprow Posted January 3, 2010 Share #10 Posted January 3, 2010 I haven't used a case on any camera since my M3 was new.
Bo_Lorentzen Posted January 3, 2010 Share #11 Posted January 3, 2010 Had a camera come with one once, tried it for about 10 minutes then tore it off. I feel its a mess to deal with, much prefer a clean "naked" camera, SLR or M alike, never used a ready-case. .
James R Posted January 3, 2010 Share #12 Posted January 3, 2010 In some situations I use a Luigi half-case, but, most of the time I don't. Those "situations" are when tramping through an old building/locals, or in the woods, or touristy spots.
M_Driscoll Posted January 3, 2010 Share #13 Posted January 3, 2010 Luigi half case on my M9. Nothing on any of the other cameras. The Luigi half case is open in the back for the controls and LCD, has a notch for the ThumbsUp, and a flap to access the USB port (nice if that was actually functional to download). All of the controls are accessible. It has a slight bulge on the front to improve grip with the right hand. I think that it's cheap protection. Only a bother if your changing batteries and cards often (every 400 shots +/-). Since it's not a D3, and I'm not ripping off 6 shots at a time, that's not a big deal for me. Cheers. FredSF Posted January 3, 2010 Share #14 Posted January 3, 2010 I've always used one (for the M6, and now the M9), and I wouldn't go around without one. No, I'm not particularly "anal" about it, but I find it a good protection against light rain, dust, and slight bumps. It doesn't even get in the way; it's rather comfortable to use actually. The only drawback I found was when I need to use a tripod since since it needs to be taken off completely. Such instances are rare though. Besides, using a tripod is by definition a slow operation. Marty Posted January 3, 2010 Share #15 Posted January 3, 2010 Normally I don't (not even my half case) but trudging through the snow in the past week I found the neoprene case to be just the right trade-off between portability and protection. KM-25 Posted January 3, 2010 Share #16 Posted January 3, 2010 Those cases are like trying to play guitar with gloves on, no thanks.
fotoism Posted January 3, 2010 Share #17 Posted January 3, 2010 I don't use everready case just to minimize weight and bulk and for easier access to all parts of the camera. And yes, I do try to protect my equipment: when I don't see immediate need to take pictures I leave the camera inside the camera bag; and when I am ready for action it comes out. It might sound funny but I try not to wear shirts with buttons up front in order to avoid the buttons scratching the LCD screen when the camera is hanging in front of my belly. jaapv Posted January 3, 2010 Share #18 Posted January 3, 2010 Note that the neoprene case, altough practical and cheap, has the properties of a sponge in wet weather.
gwelland Posted January 3, 2010 Share #19 Posted January 3, 2010 I use a Luigi half case almost all of the time, unless I'm using a tripod. Never-ready full case - I'm convinced that these are the preserve of camera fondlers because they are a pain to use unless you remove the entire front piece, in which case, why bother IMHO. If you carry more than one lens then they are especially useless and cumbersome. The best analogy I have is that it's like driving your car around wrapped in it's garage. Useful for storage & bringing to & from the party but an impediment to actual use unless you enjoy shooting with a leather sail hanging beneath your camera. giordano Posted January 3, 2010 Share #20 Posted January 3, 2010 An ERC gets in the way of fondling even more than of taking pictures. Maybe it's leather-fetishists who design and buy them.
