Ranger's New Year

No. 1 doesn't do anything for me (but then I don't know Ranger).

No. 2 very nearly comes off, with the tension created by the dog emerging from the trees (in terms both of his direction of movement and the viewer's taking in the image). Have you thought about cropping a lot of the foreground (maybe as much as a third of the whole picture)? I think that may be the finishing touch.

Al, #2 comes out the best...needs some "digital lab work" to optimize some elements and bring out the rich textures ans contrasts.

Ever consider a film camera say an old M2 or M3 using Ilfords XP2..since you post so much B&W work?

Of course it would mean scanning....

Cheers, JRM

#2 for me too Al. I agree with Giordano regarding the crop...though I would be interested in more trees in the background and less snow in the foreground...to show that wonderful Ranger pouncing out of the woods. Kinda looks like my world;)

It's number 1 for me, Al. Ranger's clearly saying "Come on, hurry up! What're you waiting for? There's a thousand smells to sniff! Come ooon!!" I almost feel like I'm there in the snow with you. :)

One thing I might change is to dodge Ranger's face a little to brighten up his eyes, which have got a little lost in the harsh contrast caused by the snowy background. A very pleasant and joyful picture either way.

Pete.

John,

You have greatly improved my initial posting. Thank you very much. People such as yourself, on this forum, have helped me to see much more clearly....... but I still go-blind every once in a while.

A pleasure - and I hope you'll do the same for me one day.
