sanyasi Posted December 24, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) There a number of iPhone Apps that calculate Depth of Field related statistics Enter the distance, lens and camera, and you get the stats. Kinda fun to experiment with and see the relationships. I have found software that handles the 8 and 8.2, but has anyone found software that has been updated for the 9? Thanks Jack Siegel
Advertisement Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Hi sanyasi, Take a look here iPhone and DoF Application Software. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Fotomiguel Posted December 24, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 24, 2009 I haven't found it. But you may use one of another camera full format.
sanyasi Posted December 24, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted December 24, 2009 That's what I have been doing. I figured it shouldn't make a meaningful difference. I am curious, why do the apps have the long lists of cameras and lenses? Marketing?
chf Posted December 24, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 24, 2009 I guess it is mostly for usability reasons. The average Canon user may not even know the size of his camera's sensor...
swamiji Posted December 24, 2009 Share #5 Posted December 24, 2009 I use PhotoCalc. It does not have a M9 setting, but I use the 35mm film setting, and it works correctly.
michali Posted December 24, 2009 Share #6 Posted December 24, 2009 I The average Canon user may not even know the size of his camera's sensor... I find it very funny that you say this. I have a friend who is an avid Canon user and fancies himself as a really great photographer. He bores everyone to tears by always rattling off technical jargon, always boasts about the speed of how the camera records images before he hits the buffer.....yawn, yawn.......zzzzzzzzzzzzz! When I asked him whether his Canon EOS-1D Mark IV was FF or cropped he had no idea. He saw my M9 the other day and asked what I'm doing with such an old camera??? When I explained to him that this little camera has a larger sensor than his Canon EOS-1D Mark IV he didn't believe me. I thought to myself "don't even bother trying to explain"! I guess it's a case of each to his own.
wlaidlaw Posted December 24, 2009 Share #7 Posted December 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) DOF calculator v1.7 @ Redvex - a Mac widget has the M9 as an option. Maybe they do an iPhone app as well. Wilson
wlaidlaw Posted December 24, 2009 Share #8 Posted December 24, 2009 Just checked and I am afraid DOF Calculator is a Mac widget and Opera or Firefox add on only. Wilson
swamiji Posted December 24, 2009 Share #9 Posted December 24, 2009 I guess it is mostly for usability reasons. The average Canon user may not even know the size of his camera's sensor... Gee, I guess knowing the crop factor is not important... Unless you use a lens of course...
