As a quick response to a suggestion of Guy Mancuso and planned as a late birthday present:

Please give your current sex, age, AND the age when you started with a LEICA- camera in a short post.

We will work out the average age of the forum members in a few days. Let me just give a guess here: 98% male, with an average of 42.5 years of age, average LEICA- time : 6 years

Well, I bring this guestimate up at once: 60 yrs of age, LEICA-M cameras since 1969, 27 yrs that is. Male forummember.

Best

Male 63 Leica user since 1968 - C3 - R8 -m7 and Digilux 2 & M8 to come shortly

Male (and always have been...), current age 65. My first serious camera was a Periflex Gold Star, traded in on an M2+Summarit f1.5 50mm in 1961, age 20. Have owned R-E, R6, R6.2, R7, M3 and M6, plus non-Leicas too numerous to mention. Current Leicas, R8 and Digilux-2. Currently lusting after an M8...

Ok, another female here.

39, film cameras since teens&Uni course. Amateur photographer, but pro art critic. M6 since November 06, as a prelude to a possible M8. Decided I like the film M better. ;)

Not many other gals....I have a possible theory. When I mention some web sites to UK pro photographer artists, they reply 'oh that's where a load of middle aged men hang out and make sexist jokes about their wives'. No kidding. I have a sneaking suspicion this thread might prove them half right!

  • 3 weeks later...

Male 50. Started on Leica 5 years ago. Up until then mostly Nikon (now it's Canon, Leica and some vintage Nikkormats). My first Camera was a Kowa SETR2, back in 1971.

I was able to get one of these on E-bay in fine working and cosmetic condition :-) which I keep for nostalgic reasons but can also use if I need to.

Cheers,

Wilfredo+

Male 69 years of age. Leica since mid to late 1950's starting with the double clutch M3. As with most of us, I have been upgrading my lenses as new technology allowed. However i am reluctant to sell off the old lenses because in certain shooting situations the older lenses may have a look preferable to the new Aspheres.

Happy Birthday Guy and I wish this forum could give you a gift worth half of what you have given us in your evaluations of the DMR and M8. We all have learned and appreciated what was possible based on your very real world evaluations. I now have the appropriate hardware (DMR/R9 and lenses and M8 and lenses to cover my photographic needs from portraits to landscape to Macro and long telephoto) I also have the commentary from you on how and why you shoot certain combinations for particular results. This may be the most valuable information of all because it brings your long professional experience to those of us with much less experience but the same desire for perfection.

You Da Man

Since then, M6TTL; M7; M8; LC1/D2; R8; + lenses.

Still got 'em all. Well, the M8 is back in Solms at present. I want it back soon, please!
