delnerdo Posted December 24, 2009 Share #21 Posted December 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) do you mean easier to grip when you withdraw the camera? Or because it is attached as a half case? The latter, not the former. The half case itself has a grip. It is in this picture (not my photo) on the left-hand side. Looks loose and bulgy but in fact works great because it's solidly built. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Hi delnerdo, Take a look here D-Lux 5? Also a few questions about the D-lux 4.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
h00ligan Posted December 24, 2009 Share #22 Posted December 24, 2009 Cheers for the clarification.
nicefor88 Posted December 24, 2009 Share #23 Posted December 24, 2009 The Dlux 4 was released in 2008 so its successor should not be there before a while, especially when considering the investment needed in a new camera (I mean a real new one). I've been using this nice compact camera for a year now and it' sreal good, though it cannot compete with a digital reflex like my Nikon D700 (not the same price, not the same size). The white balance could be improved, I thinks it's just been addressed in the firmware update. The distorsion at wide angle is noticeble, the focus a bit slow but it's a pleasant camera to use. playingolf Posted December 26, 2009 Share #24 Posted December 26, 2009 Jack, It is simply about the image quality, the DL4 surpasses anything I have seen out there, it has rapidly become my personal favorite camera and goes with me everywhere. I have had Canons before, they simply are not even close, and you will agree when you get a DL4. I want to point you to the images that sold me on the camera...Jim Radcliffe's fine work. Leica D-Lux 4 Photography by Jim Radcliffe I know I never saw a P&S do that kind of work before, and it just rocks. Enjoy. KJ Doyle
simfan Posted December 26, 2009 Share #25 Posted December 26, 2009 Amazing what Jim does with a D-Lux 4. It's one of the (many) reasons I knew the D-LUX 4 was to be:D a good choice: Jim's work with it.
JackTheRipper Posted December 27, 2009 Author Share #26 Posted December 27, 2009 hey playingolf, thanks for the link, yes indeed, beautiful pics! I'm currently in Spain now, where I saw the D-lux 4 for 699 Euros (which is over 1000 dollars)... Compared to 699 dollars in USA (Can't tell you how expensive EVERYTHING is here)... do you happen to have any pics that you've taken with the d-lux 4 playingolf? thanks, Jack

jsrockit Posted December 28, 2009 Share #28 Posted December 28, 2009 Well, if the D-LUX 5 ends up coming from this... I'd love to have one. Rumor: Panasonic will release LX4 with 1/1.3 inch backside illuminated sensor and integrated Summicron f2.0 lens and Panasonic DMC-GL1 with a LUMIX G 20mm F1.7 (pancake / 55,000 yen) lens. Old but intriguing.
farnz Posted December 28, 2009 Share #29 Posted December 28, 2009 Rumour: jsrockit is starting rumours. Pete
jsrockit Posted December 28, 2009 Share #30 Posted December 28, 2009 No, I didn't realize it was an old camera and an old pic from before the GF-1 came out. I would love to have a digital konica hexar style camera and thought the Lumix above was close... not realizing that the Lumix is huge.
Bostontom Posted December 30, 2009 Share #31 Posted December 30, 2009 And, not with much to add to more informed opinions here,I understand that if you are thinking of shooting RAW, the Panasonic LX3 is the same camera, and less costly, making the pain of switching from your Canon a little less acute. I understand that the jpeg output of the two cameras is tuned a bit differently, and those steeped in Leica images may prefer the red-dot approach..but if you are starting from scratch you could look at various photostreams on Flickr, say, and see if that distinction matters to you. FWIW -- when I entered Leicadom a year or so ago, I chose the Digilux 2, and did not try to find an LC1 (the Panny version). A friend who shoots only RAW (he likes the enforced 6 second delay to gather thoughts between shots...really) has the Panny badged camera and loves it. They all make photos as good as the photographer can accomplish...which is my problem
regedit Posted December 30, 2009 Share #32 Posted December 30, 2009 indeed, when you see a man with a Leica in his hand your first impression is that he knows what he's doing, but when you see it with a Panasonic in his hand you got the feeling that camera knows what is doing. strange but true!
