Hi Alberto!

Nice foto - sure it was a very funny party :-)

About the Sensor: when I planned a trip to Korea I wrote to the Customer Service in Solms, Germany, if they could tell me which serial numbers are the bad ones. Unfortunately there is not a special serial number with bas sensors.

Solms answered that I shlud send the camera for check. After 10 days I get back may camera with new sensor and completely checked! So it is really possible to change the sensor when it is not already down! I only can write about my experience with the Service in Germany. Maybe it is different in other countries, but I assume it is not. Especially when you plan to take your camera with you on a vacation, it is necessary to have a sensor which will not fail!

Have many good times with your Digilux 2!

Greetings

Thomas

Thank you Thomas. It's great to know that Leica takes such good care of customers even with older models that were not top of the line.

I had a different experience with Leica US

Dear ....

Your serial number reflects a very low likelihood for a problem to occur. Cameras can not be sent in that are not experiencing a problem.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for adding your experience. I am not surprised that they would not fix cameras that are not experiencing the problem.

Would you be OK sharing your serial number - perhaps just the first 5 digits?

Thanks a bunch,

Alberto

Hi Alberto,

however, I think Leica is same Leica everywhere. Also I can recommend you to contact Solms in Germany via email. Sure the will give you a good advice. I think there is a generla order how to handle the sensor problem. And the problem will everytime be handled in advantage for the customer.

You could mention to Leica CS that you wanna take your cam to a big trip and you want to be save! Finally the sensor problem is a problem of Leica. They -of course- solve the problem when it occurs, but it is highly not acceptable to have these "uncertainty" (right english word I hope) before one goes on a vacation trip.

You can find the Leica "everlasting sensor guarantee" on the Leica website (at the moment I cannot find it, I am on vacation trip). I think this guarantee will last how long Leica will find compatible sensors.

By the way: it is no problem that you are 2nd owner. I can say that Leica Solms never wanted to see a bill. They know that many Digilux 2 users are 2nd hand users.

Greetings

Thomas
