I have a 2854xxx black M7 0.85.

I have read about different rangefinders being built into the batches of the later M7.

I see, that my M7 does suffer from the same issues, my 0.72 M6 classic suffers (whiteout, low contrast with strong back light, … ).

Although I can live with that, as I am already accustomed to it, I am very interested in which camera I have here.

How can I find out?

Although you can't go by serial nrs., I think yours is likely to have the updated finder. The best way to find out is to send it to your distributor's service department with the question. I was convinced my M7 had the upgraded VF but it didn't. Leica upgraded it for free.

My .85 M7 has the serial no: 2854060 and has the updated MP viewfinder so I'm assuming yours also does.

My .85 suffers from whiteout at certain angles in strong contrasting light so I sent it to Solms for checking and they confirmed it does have the updated finder. This does not happen to my other M7s (.58 and .72).

So perhaps the issues are characteristic of the .85 version.

Mine had the updated viewfinder when I purchased it as a Leica certified refurbished model from Popflash photo.

Leica will update the viewfinder for you if you have the old version...you'll have to check with their US or Solms office for pricing.

....íf the whiteout only occurs in very contrasting light, I wouldn't bother as you have the updated finder. If it whiteouts all the time, then it's worth investigating whether it has the updated version.

Thank you very much for the info.

Did you buy it new or could a former user have it upgraded?
