Super - Thank you Leica :)

A little surprised I could not find it on the German website but on the US site.

Per.

I found it and downloaded it from the German site o.k.

Nary a problem - look for "service" then "downloads" then "choose a category" (compact cameras) then "sub category" (D-Lux 4)

Hi there!

First post for me, in this great forum.

Just installed the new firmware, and the new functions are welcome. Love it! :p

BUT, the firmware is buggy: when you select french language (I'm French :D), and choose the "Lens Resume" setting ("reprise d'obj." in french), everything freeze. I'll make a video of that as soon as possible.

I wonder, which person should I contact at Leica? I've contacted for some other stuff the french contact (Jean-Pierre Hamadache), but after 3 emails, the guy never give me any feedback. So, I think I'll pass the guy this time, and it's probably better to have a direct contact with the "competent" person: so Germany, or US?

Where the dev. team is based?

Any contact info?

Thanks!

I'll give you a video preview of the freeze today, and update this post.

Strange; one would think that the different language versions are just text strings without any real connection to the actual working of the software.

As a short term solution: since you obviously (judging from your post) have no problems with English, why not simply select that? As a Swede, I can tell you that the Swedish version isn´t very well translated, so I use English or German according to mood....

That was what I thought too! But, there is obviously a problem with the firmware code.

I also totally agree about the language thing: French version isn't that great, and I'll stick with the English one for now (German version is certainly more "roots" but, unfortunately, I don't speak a word of German :()

I'll let you know if I have some news about that, but if someone know where to contact the firmware developers, I'm in! ;)

"Remembering" the focal length used before shutting it down, is IMHO the only "improvement" added by 2.1 I appreciate. In any case eleven months ownership of an all singing - all dancing D-Lux 4 (preceeded by a year with a Fujifilm F810) hasn't killed off my greater enthusiasm for film. (Nearly said " for analogue cameras" there )

So its going to be sold to boost my very limited budget ... as I'd much rather have another lens for the Leicaflex SL instead.

ps do the scholars amongst us agree that the adjective "analogue" is misused or at least clumsy when referring to cameras that use film ?

My thoughts on the new firmware...

The square aspect ratio is really cool. Now I can do Leicablad pictures! (more cameras should have this... its probably easy to program)

The white balance bracket function. Sometimes my Leica just doesn't get the color balance right and I have to correct it in Photoshop. This function might help me reduce my post processing work, which is greatly appreciated.

Exposure compensation from -3 to +3 is awesome and is more in tune with my Nikons now.

I'm probably not going to use High Dynamic mode or the lens/menu resume modes, but I'm sure others my find them helpful.

cannot open the d-lux4 2.1 bin file with Mac OS 4.11 even after downloading stuffit ?

anybody had the same problem

thanks Sylvain

When you download a zipped file on a Mac, it will automatically unzip it, and even clean up afterwards. So all you have to do is copy the resultant file to a card as Paulpp pointed out. :)

thanks it is working I find the autofocus and white balance much improved

I love the lens resume I can put my 24mm of 50mm viewfinder and keep if it was a wide angle or standard lens or the vario focal canon VF and set the focal as I wish

Like having a brand new camera

Sylvain
