Tried to wring some more detail out - notice the handgrip, the lens release button, both very Canon like......That also looks similar to my 50 Summicron with the R to EOS adapter fitted.

Curiouser and curiouser

I hope you don't mind but I cropped and edited attached to see details a little more. The tape is "clear." It's like the new car model covered in tape and rigid-board to hide the new features.

How long does it take to take a photo with the iphone?

Why would someone tape a camera body but not the brand name?

And why does the photo show just enough to generate a discussion on the forum?

To me it looks like either

a) something initiated by Leica to generate interest and keep R users busy or

B) a fake, either by the thread opener or the guy with camera.

So what do you think?

Great minds n all that :D

I'm not sure about the 'tape', as in is there any tape at all? There's a lot of camera shake and some double imaging going on. It would seem strange to tape over something and not the Leica badge

yes :)

Not sure on the tape. An earlier reply asked about tape. So, might not be any tape at all. It's hard to not "see" the tape though once it was suggested. The green across the top is what I assumed. I shouldn't assume though :)

There was a rumor a while ago about m9 using a Canon sensor.

Could it be the r solution is a rebadged Canon with built-in adaptor part of the equation? Purely speculation on my part.

My instant reaction was a GH1 - I just pulled mine out and i reckon the form factor is close..BUT... that handgrip sticks out to much. Other than that the tape covers what would be other identifiers - the lens release is in the exact same position. - Im not sure how to post a photo here but i'm sure a member could pop up a photo of the GH1 from a similar angle!

Looks quite lumix G for sure. don't know what it is, I would say panasonic something. :D

though, agree, nobody would tape the camera and leave the name on top. so that kind of shoots down the entire guess work... maybe GH1 or G1 with lens adapter in bad light. don't know.

Though.... it looks too big.. so maybe a future fullframe Panasonic EVIL entry.?

Cool, a conspiracy theory...

Why is the Leica logo not exactly straight? That section of the pentaprism is normally slightly curved on most cameras, but the letters just seem wonky, for want of a better term. Something definitely fishy going on here...

What great fun. LOL

The iPhone EXIF data is intact and the GPS data is functional too... use the MapQuest link.

I have found it interesting that Leica in the past seemed to hold the 5D MK11 in high regard for image comparison... in so much they've never trashed the 5D MK11's image quality.

If not a "hoax"... on anyone's part, could/would Leica consider a repackaging and branding a 5D with a R lens mount? Similar to their Panasonic arrangement? The only flaw in that consideration is they stopped production on R lenses.... so that almost makes no sense. I mean if they were to pursue that sort of option, you'd think they at least continue with some small collection of R glass remaining in production.

Who knows...? Pretty wild speculation. LOL
