Goodbye M9 (for now at least)

Have been waiting a month on my paid for M9 from B&H. But now I have to go overseas for a month right after Christmas and obviously can't take delivery if I'm not home. So I called B&H this morning and cancelled my order because they could offer no assurances of delivery this month. They will refund, and frankly, it's nice to see 7k go back in the account. Maybe I'll order again next Spring, but maybe not. The thing is, I occasionally need to do photo slide presentations of a project I am working on overseas. And for several years I've been scanning my slides, the best ones, with a Nikon Super Coolscan 5000, then going to Photoshop, etc. Not a bad situation for sure, and the MP I have had since 2003 works like a charm with Velvia 100. So maybe it would be best to save the 7k and maybe continue with the MP and take a look at the X1. Anyway, I guess I'm not all that disappointed that I had to cancel order, for now.

I do not see, why to post this kind of dirge here on this forum.

Dirge? Isn't that putting it a bit strong? And maybe you're not aware of a previous thread started by the OP, which elicited all kinds of comments and flaming about B&H asking for the full price for an order, but not being able to tell the customer when the camera would be delivered, etc... This post by the OP is an unfortunately predictable conclusion, and I think it's not only in its place right here, but it's also very useful. At least it tells of B&H making no difficulty to refund the OP.

the farkas order was canceled before the B&H one was made. I figured I might get a camera faster through BH, but no. I will order next year, or wait till the M10, or never...

I have been facing a trip overseas and really, really wanted the M9 around Thanksgiving or at least early December. No such luck.

One month. This is ridiculous. Some of us here have ordered on 9/9 and are still waiting! And of course, everyone here has some sort of "important project" which cannot be accomplished without an M9 before Christmas. As if the previous camera suddenly stopped working overnight...

Naw, I'm quite happy to go abroad with my MP, but I wish I could have had the M9 for this trip. But as said, having Velvia transparencies to project on a nice screen for an audience (from whom I may be able to raise some funds for an interesting summer school project in the Mideast) may be for this purpose "better" than anything an M9 can produce.

No bad decision to cancel one order for a M9 if one has already got a second one:

I've seen this kind of comment about ordering two M9s a few times on this forum, and I still fail to understand what kind of capital sin it is to order two M9s from two different places. In fact, if the M9 distribution wasn't such a mess, maybe these things woudln't happen.

O.K. Great times for fairy tales.

On November 20 we are told that someone ordered a M9 at DFarkas on Sept. 11 and that they said delivery could be exspect it in three weeks time.

On November 24 - that is 4 days later - we are told that the same person is "bitched like hell" for not recieving a prepaid M9 from BH.

Now we told that during those four days between November 20 and November 24 an order which was running for two months was cancelled and a new order made which was the cause to be "bitched like hell".

And there are still people around who tell us something about M9 distribution being a mess.

I shouldn't have said that. B&H stil list the M9 as «Currently not in stock» (that's B&H, the biggest Leica dealer in north America, if not the world), but keep taking «pre-orders» (asking for full payment in the process.) Some people have already waited 3 months and are still waiting, but the M9 distribution is going perfectly well. It's only customers ordering their M9, then cancelling because of the delay that are a mess.
