Love this forum guys...

But I wish I never went in here. I was so excited about the X1, and all I read about is the negativity. I have one on order, and I'm gonna keep it that way.

Feed me some good news, so I know I've made the right descision...

I am a newbie who has a Nikon D80, but I'm too tired of dragging the thing around.

Looking for a more portable camere, without too much fuzz.

I rarely use a zoom, and I mostly use AF, but love getting good shots.

Have I made the right descicion?

Best

Claus

Claus,

Congratulations on your order! Don't pay too much attention to a bunch of people who have never even seen the camera. If it sounds like it meets your needs and has specs that you like I am sure you'll be pleased.

Let us know your thoughts when you finally get the camera. It will be interesting to get a hands on opinion.

Take care and Happy Shooting.

Kent

AF will be slower than the Nikon but if you can live with that plus the fiddly on screen manual focusing........ the camera's sensor/lens combination will produce great files......the rest is about your camera skills

Please do not despair. Not everybody on this forum is a negativistic naysayer. There is a lot of good advice to be found.

Very few people on this forum had the X1 in their hands and even fewer were actually able to test it to any degree. The only two review that are reliable and meaningful were written by Sean Reid (Reid Reviews) and Michael Reichmann (Luminous Landscape). Read them.

Clandrel,

If you are happy with Nikon D80, you will be more than happy with Leica X1. I have D Lux4 and I am very happy with D Lux4. You will see the different when you print out the pictures. X1 is the camera I want to have it, it has big sensor, very good lens, light weigh and pocket size camera, easy to care whenever I go. I will get X1 too, I believe that the X1 is very good camera and Leica will keep their brand reputation.

X1 has not in the market yet, and everyone had discussed of their opinions, and I don't think that is the right way to post it. It would be more wiser if the X1 is already in the market and the user had comment it. It has more acceptable input compare than what they had been posting now.

Thank you

Maybe you made the right decision and maybe not. That is the problem with ordering a camera prior to release. Who knows?

I can bet that you would be happier than with your present camera. Since you will be one of the first ones shooting with the X1, how about you returning and you tell us if you made the right decision, because most of us haven't used the camera.

Please post when you resolve your own question.

Do as a many of us do: /ignore naysayers without real reason

Leica will deliver a wonderful camera as a cary-with-me-all-the-time-because-I-like-to-camera. And it will certainly be a nice addition to your Nikon. It will feel different, but you will like it :D - despite the oh' so terrible LCD display (that only few people have actually seen live) and the missing optical viewfinder.

OK, still have to make the pictures yourself ;) ... but isn't that the point of a Leica?

Make up your own mind :) - I've ordered my X1 a couple of days after its announcement (and still hope to get it before Christmas)!

Claus, the X1 should be a wonderful complement to your Nikon DSLR. Each one will possess unique strengths.

Regarding negative thoughts expressed on the forum, they can be depressing until you realize that the small number of detractors are often the most vocal. Wait until you hear from the silent majority! Keep faith with yourself.

This forum does seem to be becoming more and more dominated by the negative posters, which is a pity. It didn't used to be like that, and in my opinion it was more interesting in those days.

Negativity is an internet forum phenomenon I'm afraid. In the past if someone didn't like a camera it was just a case of them not liking it, and that was that. Now they can tell the world how fundamentally flawed it is while ignoring the fact that the perfect camera doesn't exist, and also the fact that it may just have the perfect feature set for someone else.

I'm sure you'll love the X1, I'd like to think it will be my next 'pocketable' camera too.

I'll go along with Steve on this. Despite this you will still find some very useful, informed discussion here - its just a matter of wading through the irrelevance until you do find something really useful and it is worth it IMHO :).

i expect that you will love your X1 and i am jealous that i dont have the moxie to drop my $2000 on it just yet....

this IS a great forum and the folks here ARE generally overly critical of anything leica does .... however MOST of the criticism is laced with respect and too-high expectations for the leica name.

the X1 is destined to become a cult classic, as much as the D2.

congratulations!

I think some people expected more of the X1 than Leica have (or will) delivered.

I'm not particularly fond of the retractable lens and would have preferred it to have a fixed barrel design, and built in viewfinder, but I've said before Leica have clearly designed the camera to appeal to photographers who are already familiar with other digitals and new to Leica, hence the layout, form etc., rather than designing a compact aimed at existing Leica users.

I'm sure you will be happy with the camera - if you were happy with what you already know about the camera design and spec then I'm sure that the image quality won't let you down.
