Advertisement Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Hi andcolor, Take a look here what's your other camera?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rob_w Posted December 1, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 1, 2009 I have a Ricoh GRII. Apart from its many features the two key things for me vis-a-vis the M8 are: (1) it is very small, so always with me and (2) it has a somewhat wider field of view than the widest lens I have on the M8 (24 Elmarit = 32 EFOV) which can be handy for interior shots when I want good DOF and wide view. Now humming about whether to move up to the new GRIII. Cheers Robert PS I do also have a Canon 30D but since I never get around to using it I am not sure it counts
karl101 Posted December 1, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 1, 2009 A Canon G9. Gets taken everywhere, even gets mixed in with the shopping. Very useful for quick snaps. Karl.
Ecaton Posted December 1, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 1, 2009 Sigma DP1 and DP2, most brilliant IQ in pocketable form. Will see whether the X1 can replace the DP2. GRD3, f 1.9 lens, IQ, UI, shirt pocketable, ISO 1600 for b&w. Recently also m4/3 because of versatility (long, wide) and as backup for the M8 (with adapter). trs Posted December 1, 2009 Share #7 Posted December 1, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) My other camera is iPhone. Other than that, I have not bought a single camera since I got M8 in winter of '06. I have bunch of other cameras that predate M8 though which don't get used much. giordano Posted December 1, 2009 Share #8 Posted December 1, 2009 D700 for when I want zooms, teles, macros, shifts - or to shoot in the dark. Ricoh GX100 for when even the M8 is too big and heavy. And some others for when I want to use film.
jsrockit Posted December 1, 2009 Share #9 Posted December 1, 2009 Currently, a Rollei 35. However, I'm in the market for a pocketable digital. The X1 may be too big. However, I want dedicated shutter speed and aperture dials... so, X1 is about all that is out there.
Nicoleica Posted December 1, 2009 Share #10 Posted December 1, 2009 Besides my M8, I have a D700 to go with my film 'F' cameras, and use this for purposes where an 'M' is not appropriate. I also have a P6000 which lives in my handbag. (I sold my D-Lux 4 as the lack of a built in viewfinder outweighed it's lens quality. ) Apart from this, I also have a selection of film cameras (Some of which are even older than I. ) which I enjoy using when opportunity arises. Howiepix Posted December 1, 2009 Share #12 Posted December 1, 2009 I use a Ricoh GRD and I also have a D-Lux3, both are great, but I keep thinking what's to buy next? the Olympus E-P2 looks interesting as does the latest Ricoh GXR, but why can't they build an decent small camera with an internal optical finder, I suppose one good thing is that it makes me use and love my M8 all the more. Islandmike Posted December 1, 2009 Share #16 Posted December 1, 2009 Nikon D90 with Nikon 18-70, various Sigmas, inc 10-20. Essential for interiors and food work, but not half as much fun as the M8, which I've now had for about 3 weeks (bought new with Summarit 35/2.5 as an unmissable deal from Wilkinson Cameras). So the cocktail below was D90 plus flash boxes and the chef just available light, with the M8 in the kitchen. Chetri, the chef was fun and the cocktail never spoke. Although the chef's pic, a grab shot, is not quite sharp, - for me it's far more satisfying. I really enjoy how I can relate to subjects and depict their personality so much better when my entire face is not hidden behind a bulky SLR. Welcome, dear visitor! andcolor Posted December 1, 2009 Author Share #18 Posted December 1, 2009 Very interesting. Thanks for taking time to respond. I have a Canon 40 d. I keep thinking it's necessary on a big event shoot, but it weighs a ton and isn't really that great. I am thinking of kissing it good bye and replacing with something else, so just wondering what y'all are using. When doing a shoot w. both cameras most of the keepers are w. M8... I shoot lots of children and events and that sort of thing, and find myself in dark situations (low light, that is) so the 40d has a slight edge, but I just can't make myself like it.. The new G11 looks rather nice. Other ideas welcome PS. the iPhone is amazing!!
Printmaker Posted December 1, 2009 Share #19 Posted December 1, 2009 I use big guns for art copy, a D2x for catalog shots and for wet location work and a M8 for everything else. The 4x5s give me massive files that let me print giclees up to 40x90. The D2x with a 60 micro and a few WL strobes in soft boxes make for fast studio work. Mount a 80-200 or a 17-55 and its great on a bouncing deck. But other than that, the M8 goes everywhere and shoots everything. Tom Welcome, dear visitor!
