Am in Hongkong at the moment. There are many shops on Nathan Road that stock Leica products and all much cheaper than anywhere in the world. Can anyone tell me if these shops are "clean" and do not stock fake products? I have already read here that Tin Cheung sells "real" stuff. Can anyone help me?

I don't live in HK, but I did ask a friend who lives there to check from Leica's distributor two weeks ago and they didn't have any delivery dates then. I doubt you'd find one even if you know a reputable dealer. But good luck hunting anyway.

Tin Cheung does sell real Leica products because they are an authorized dealer. The point is, the warranty is covered by Schmidt Marketing who is Leica's sole agent in HK (and some other countries). Assuming you are not living in HK, if you need to service your Leica camera or lenses you might need to send them back to Hong Kong for Schmidt to handle (they might do it themselves or send back to Germany depends how serious the problem is).

I checked them a few weeks ago that no M9 stock is available.

If you are looking for an M9 I think you will be disappointed. The list price is HK$57,000 (US$7354) and ALL of Schmidt's stock is being sold over the border in China for HK$60,000 to HK$70,000.

I am going to buy an M9 eventually (having rented one in Seattle this autumn from Leica USA during the LHSA meeting) but I will wait until supplies stabilize and prices settle - sometime in 2010.
