PhilFarber Posted December 2, 2006 Share #1 Posted December 2, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) While shooting today with my M8 (has approx 2000 lifetime shots on it) everything seemed fine, but when I tried to open the files in photoshop I got a message "Wrong file type can not open". I had files on the card I shot earlier and those were fine. All the files seemed to be the correct size, etc. Seemed like a file index error or something. I put the card back in and tried shooting again and alll was fine. Anyone else have any similar problems? PS battery was fully charged. Phil

JHAG Posted December 2, 2006 Share #2 Posted December 2, 2006 When your card will be empty of any picture, re-format it in camera. It's safe to do this from time to time.
jaapv Posted December 2, 2006 Share #3 Posted December 2, 2006 Some card manufacturers like sandisk have file recovery software. Did you format your SD card or delete files on the card using your PC? You should'nt.
PhilFarber Posted December 2, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted December 2, 2006 I do reformat my card each time I clear it. By the way I was shooting raw not jpeg. It was a lexar 1 gig card that I have had for awhile. So maybe it was a card problem not an M8 problem. I will reformat it again and try it today. It was just a little scary since it seemed fine while shooting. I could see the images on the camera etc.

You version of Photoshop or Camera was probably not the latest versions that support the M8 RAW files.
RaySwan Posted December 2, 2006 Share #6 Posted December 2, 2006 reformat it in the camera that you are going to use it in. This allows the camera to write a fresh FAT (file alocation table) that is supposed to do all the housekeeping on the card. If you don't reformat in the camera each time you load the FAT file can become corrupted and cost you images.
