Have to decide by tomorrow on Black or Chrome.

Guys,

I actually ordered a Chrome M9 but there is no stock at all. The dealer called me today offering me a Black unit. Should I decide to give it up, I may only get my Chrome unit next year as shipments are being diverted to Europe and the US for the Christmas season.

Can anyone offer me a true assessment of the Chrome unit? How does the paint look? Does it look like some plasticky Japanese point and shoot? Or is it closer or the same as the Leica Anthracite?

I have to decide by tomorrow.

Best,

SM

Lots of perspectives already posted on this:

Those who want a real chrome version and those who are more open to the grey version .. as well as those who are perfectly happy with the new black paint even if it is not the lacquer of old... lots of comments if you search.

Regards,

Mark

But I'm hanging out for chrome ))

If you have a titanium watch, that is very close to the finish, the camera is a shade darker than titanium. but the laquer finish is much like titanium. at first I was anoyed that it was paint instead of metal, as my other M cameras are all chrome, but the gray is lovely. just a beautiful camera.

I got the steel grey because it was available. I have black and chrome M bodies, I wasn't sure how I'd like the steel grey...and I love it! Looks great, both chrome and black lenses pair well with it, and I like the fine texture covering on it more than the coarser one that comes with the black M9. I've "heard" that there may be problems with the paint wearing off, I have seen no indication of this after three 10 hour shoots, but who knows. But as to how it looks, a big thumbs up from me.....Peter

I love the classic look of the gray, but I have the black and I have zero regrets. It looks a bit more nondescript and thus attracts a little less attention -- that could be my imagination, of course but I haven't had one person ask me about the camera yet whenever I've been out and about with it. And, personally, I like the coarse texture. I have a matching Leica handle to go with it and it looks great. Of course if I found a gray on my doorstep tomorrow, I wouldn't turn it away.

Mostly though, I am happy I have owned my camera for a few weeks (or months) more than I would have if I had gone the gray route.

If you could swap that would be just perfect. I think one should go for what one originally intended.

That said, I ordered a grey and not ill I opened the box I realized t was a black and got - and that if I wanted a grey I would have to return that one and sit and wait. So I kept it and I'm actually become happy with it. It took a few days and more the fact that it wasn't I who decided the color but that it was forced on me.

I guess had I been standing in the store with both, it could have gone both ways.

But take the one you feel for, the one would take out the most and thus get most shot with.

Color and style can be very personal and very important. It's okay that some don't care, but those who care should stick to what's most right for them.

I own 4 chrome lenses, so I selected the silvergrey version.

it looks gorgeous. the grey of the body of cause does not match

with the colour of the chrome lenses, but the chrome corresponds

lovely with the shutter speed dial, image field selector and the flash

unit shoe. and with black lenses its also a beauty.

Well tell us what you decided.

I waited an extra 2 months for the grey, so of course I will now say I am glad I waited.

What I am really glad about is that the one person ahead of me on the list for grey gave up and went for black.

Yes I like the finish more than I expected, and it shows no use after some hard knocks.

The finish vs silver is nice and less flashy. People assume it is an older camera and relax even more when I take their picture. If I never look at the back screen they are convinced it is an old film camera.

On the other hand, while I was waiting, I did have the use of a M8. If you have no camera, many shots can be lost in two months while you are waiting.
