spersky Posted November 24, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 24, 2009 Very nice. I could have saved 4k ouch, if I was a photgraphy student. Students likely do not have the budget to buy that anyway, but I really like the marketing. Get them hook on Leica while they are young. neli Posted November 24, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 24, 2009 that is great news... hopefully most students won't have finished the course before their equipment arrives though
thrice Posted November 24, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 24, 2009 but where can we student purchase the discount items, it's a question. It is only offered by Leica USA, and you have to be a resident and studying in the states. Even though I'm studying via correspondence with NYIP I'm ineligible becayse I'm in Australia Great idea for students though.
wilfredo Posted November 24, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 24, 2009 Those prices are beyond the reach of the vast majority of students and probably what Leica should be charging in the first place. This should be called the Golden Spoon Leica Student Offer. Very clever PR.

Get them hook on Leica while they are young. yeah, it's just an investment for the future. they'll save a couple of thousand now, but in the future they'll be spending more than what they saved. very nice scheme by leica. How many Leica owners have sold that spoon and downgraded their childs education to pay for their Leica addiction?... "Son a State school can give you a fine education!"... Do you find this on the offiicial Leica Homepage for the U.S.? There are several respectable dealers like Calumet who offer the same information, and the program was already mentioned on this forum a couple of years ago. wattsy Posted November 24, 2009 Share #12 Posted November 24, 2009 (edited) Silver spoon surely (or is "Golden Spoon" a new Americanism)? Edited November 24, 2009 by wattsy
borowiec Posted November 24, 2009 Share #13 Posted November 24, 2009 The program is not just for students but also for college and university photo educators, which is what I am. I bought my M9 with this program. You can buy through any official Leica dealer in the US. At first, the rep told me that Leica would only honor the Student Assistance plan for the M9 once all the regular orders had been filled, but they relented and mine arrived a couple of weeks ago. Note that this program applies to other cameras and lenses too -- I bought my M8 this way too. Note the contact info at the bottom. Leica Student Assistance Program The goal of the Leica Student Assistance Program is to help students and educators in accredited photographic programs purchase their working tools at a special discounted price. The reduced price should help to reduce the financial burden while providing the finest photographic equipment available. Many working professional photographers consider Leica products as their “tools of choice” because of the fine quality optics and lifelong durability. Eligibility • Full or part-time students in an accredited photography program in an accredited academic institution (higher than high school level). • Educators teaching photographic courses in an accredited photography program in a college or university setting. Discount • For M & R System, the student/educator will get a discount of 25% off the published MSP in Leica’s most current price list. For Compact Digital Cameras, the student/educator will get a discount of 15% of the published MSP in Leica’s most current price list. This program is valid only for products carrying a serial number. No other consumer incentive program can be combined with the Leica Student Assistance Program. • All products will be registered to the purchaser. • The discount only applies to new Leica Camera Inc, USA products sold by authorized Leica Dealers in the US and Canada. Submission Requirements & Restrictions • Leica Camera Inc. reserves the right to change prices without notice. The application for credit will only be accepted with the following attachments: 1. Completed Leica Student Assistance Program Form. 2. Completed product warranty cards. 3. Copy of student ID card (Educator – employment ID). 4. Proof of enrollment in photography courses. 5. Copy of the sales receipt. • If you have any questions regarding this program please contact Shirley De Silva at 800-222-0118, extension 219. BenMacPhoto Posted November 24, 2009 Share #15 Posted November 24, 2009 I just wish the M9 came out when I was in school. A friend of mine is doing this discount program. Apparently it also applies to lenses, 25% off would be very nice.
