wstotler Posted November 19, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 19, 2009 Won't argue with Brent!! If by chance you do decide to go with a local vendor, you may want to consider physically providing lossless TIFF files to them instead of submitting large, high-quality JPGs via a Web service, even if they offer it. Likewise, if you are going to submit your work through the Web to anyone, I'd suggest that you'll want to ask somebody there beforehand about file handling chain vs. output so you don't get any surprises. That way your files can be properly prepared--and you can work out if they've had previous issues. When I had issues, I was not using an "exhibition quality" print house, just a reputable local shop. Details here: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/102684-printing-digital-files-give-your-vendor.html The quality produced by the TIFFs was a knock-out. Thanks, Will
tollie Posted November 20, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 20, 2009 Slightly off topic. I had a satisfactory experience with a local, but high quality print shop... but when I began to print on my own printer with my own rip and paper choices I found a real uptick in the quality of the prints. That is... I was now able to control the entire chain from initial capture to PP and to print. When the print was done it was in my hands. If I found upon seeing a print enlarged that a small adjustment needed to be made I could do it directly. Very satisfying. It has taken me about 9 months to learn to print properly... the print is so different from a screen image... it can be an object of beauty in itself as one holds it.
