wparsonsgisnet Posted November 29, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 29, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) We had a notice in one of the threads that Leica planned to start shipping the corrected M8's this past Monday. I have used that as an excuse to call my beleagred dealer, but we're not getting any follow-op. Does anyone know if Leica has begun shipping the M8-Mark-II ? thanks,

matt736 Posted November 29, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 29, 2006 Bill, Please see this thread http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digital-forum/10516-next-m8-uk-delivery-mid-december.html that i posted lunchtime today,I thought it was interesting news, but its already been pushed to page 2, Cheers Matthew. wparsonsgisnet Posted November 29, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted November 29, 2006 Thanks, Matthew. I'm surprise that it got to page 2 without me seeing it today. Clearly, I'll have to peruse pages 2 and 3 periodically. I guess the shipments will go to distribution points in each country and be checked and assembled before shipping. This seems to me like a strange way to do quality control, so it must match the distribution of bodies at Leica. Maybe it also works better if manuals have to be in different languages. What the hey, gimme the camera!
wparsonsgisnet Posted November 30, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted November 30, 2006 Hey You Guys, it's tomorrow, today (since the last posting). DID Leica ship on 11/27? Does anyone know about this? My dealer has no info -- because the rep has no ... (right?). I previously posted that Leica needs to be more forthright toward its dedicated community. Where IS the press release (or Forum posting/leak) regarding M8 shipments?????? Thanks to any helpful, knowledgable, friendly, informative, kind person. marknorton Posted November 30, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 30, 2006 I don't think we should assume that just because Leica started building fixed cameras on Monday (11/27) that they would be shipped the same day.

matt736 Posted November 30, 2006 Share #7 Posted November 30, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Bill, You are just going to have to wait like I am and the rest of the world for Leica to deliver the M8 as it should have been. From what I was told by Leica Camera sales earlier in the week the shipments have started on the 27th Nov to the rest of the world, but I do not know how long they will take to reach you in your part of the globe. They said it would be mid-December before they reached the UK,over 2 weeks !!, It wont be long now, Cheers Matthew. wparsonsgisnet Posted November 30, 2006 Author Share #8 Posted November 30, 2006 It wont be long now,QUOTE] Is that like saying, "You can't miss it?" Or calling 911 in NY in the 70's and being asked to hold for a moment, as happened to my wife. I have some shoots next week and on the 23rd and following for which I would really like .... It would be nice to hear the box score d-u-r-i-n-g the game.
matt736 Posted November 30, 2006 Share #9 Posted November 30, 2006 Bill, No ''It wont be long now'' refers to the fact that the wait is nearly over and Leica will deliver all our M8's in the next few weeks , Cheers Matthew.
carstenw Posted November 30, 2006 Share #10 Posted November 30, 2006 They shipped my repaired M8 with the new sensor board and firmware1.09 on Nov 24 Bill, do you mean you have it, or that you have a tracking number, and that's when it left?
billh Posted December 1, 2006 Share #11 Posted December 1, 2006 Bill, do you mean you have it, or that you have a tracking number, and that's when it left? I have it here. It was shipped Fed Ex last Friday.

sdai Posted December 1, 2006 Share #13 Posted December 1, 2006 i would at least like to have the firmware What's the point, Guy? They've said that ver1.1 will be ready by early December, I assume that 1.09 isn't supposed to be "good" (enough).
marknorton Posted December 1, 2006 Share #14 Posted December 1, 2006 Quite a lot of change - my camera isn't a month in my hands and it's 1.06.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 1, 2006 Share #15 Posted December 1, 2006 Mine is 1.06 and because the coding info is in there for the cyan cast i think
carstenw Posted December 1, 2006 Share #16 Posted December 1, 2006 I have it here. It was shipped Fed Ex last Friday. That would make it the first fixed M8, right? I have not heard of any others. Did it get the hardware fix? Is the banding gone?
erl Posted December 1, 2006 Share #17 Posted December 1, 2006 So firmware 1.09 is being installed. If Leica had 1/2 a brain, they would make it available as a download for us, just as a stop gap till the later Ver. is available. It would go a long way to 'pouring oil on troubled waters' for many of us until the real fix is offered. Incremental improvements will keep people happy in that it demonstrates something is being done. Much better than a 'cone of silence'. Are you listening Leica, or are you locked in that cone of silence? Cheers, Erl P.S. Where is my key for C1 LE? It is about to time out! LIft game! billh Posted December 1, 2006 Share #18 Posted December 1, 2006 Did it get the hardware fix? Is the banding gone? My understanding is they have a new sensor board (they use the same sensor), so possibly the firmware change may be related to that - and early December is here now, so 1.10 should be available soon. I didn’t see any of the banding or other artifacts mentioned on the list, but I did ask Sean what conditions induced them. I took a variety of photos under those conditions, and saw absolutely nothing untoward or out of the ordinary - no streaking artifacts. I’ll try to post some of them on a site later. I assume the IR situation is the same as it was before. I took photos using flash and tungsten light with no filter and with the IR 489 (46mm) and IR 486 (49mm) - and with the 1Ds2. The filters clean up the IR issue, but that has already been demonstrated here repeatedly. What was interesting to me was the M8 images seem to have a lot more bite or “snap” to them. It reminds me of long ago in the days of KII, when you could instantly tell which slide was taken with a Leica camera when viewing a mixture of Leica and (in my case) Nikon slides. marknorton Posted December 1, 2006 Share #19 Posted December 1, 2006 Bill, I'm interested to know how the white balance is if you use AWB in tungsten light. Do the colours match reality? With and without an IR (486) filter?
mhoutman Posted December 1, 2006 Share #20 Posted December 1, 2006 and early December is here now, so 1.10 should be available soon. Someone at the german digital forum already had 1.10 in his hands on november 24. This is particular interesting as IMO Leica would send new camera's from Nov. 27 on. http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digitalforum/10128-m8-erstkontakt.html Michiel
