wilfredo Posted November 19, 2009 Share #21 Posted November 19, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Here's a Syrian that will break the Arab stereotype most Americans have. I just happened to be doing some Orthodox Icon reproduction photos over the weekend. Meet Saint Raphael of Brooklyn who was an immigrant to the U.S. and settled in Brooklyn. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Hi wilfredo, Take a look here M9 available NOW. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
borowiec Posted November 19, 2009 Share #22 Posted November 19, 2009 Willoughby's weekly ad in yesterday's New York Times (November 18) had a picture of the M9 with the words "in stock" and I was about to post that info on this site (since my M9 arrived 2 weeks ago), but I decided to check their website first. There it said that the M9 was out of stock so I didn't bother, assuming it was a typical Willoughby bait and switch. Maybe they had a couple and sold them right away. hammam Posted November 19, 2009 Share #23 Posted November 19, 2009 I was a customer of the old Willoughby's and sorry to hear the name has gone down hill but I see no need to single out a particular ethnicity. I actually find it offensive. B&H has tried to stiff me in the past, so don't be so sure about those guys. You just have to know what you are buying regardless of location. New York City is no longer my first choice for camera gear. Isn't there a little hidden ethniciy finger-pointing in that B&H comment as well?
spersky Posted November 19, 2009 Share #24 Posted November 19, 2009 I talked to the guy about that add, and I asked him how he can advertise when he does not have it in. He said he was expecting it in 2 days, and wanted to get the add out there. I guess this guy has a huge Leica pipeline. He gets them in every week. massimom Posted November 19, 2009 Share #25 Posted November 19, 2009 Always check Store Ratings, Reviews: Trusted Shopping, Praise & Complaints, Avoid Scams first before dealing with a seller you aren't familiar with. Their lifetime rating is 7.03/10, which is higher than I expected. Not good, but higher than most of the scammer stores in NY. Their 6 month rating is 3.33/10. Reading the posts it sounds like a mixture of bait and switch scams along with some happy customers. Bought a 50mm Summilux there about a month ago, listed "in stock". Took them one week to tell me they DID NOT have it and three more weeks to get a credit on my card.
Mauribix Posted November 19, 2009 Share #26 Posted November 19, 2009 Absolutely bad experience with them in september. They alread had an M9 in stock, they told me the price was 8990$!!! (plus taxes), I rolled on the floor laughing!

Hamam, The gentleman I was responding to made a point of recommending B&H, I am simply sharing my experience. I use B&H but as I stated, for major purchases, I tend to stay away from New York City dealers in general, especially when buying on the internet. PNOBLE wrote: "Today Willoughby's is just another New York 'Syrian store' with a reputation to match, as a quick Google search will confirm. Stick with B&H!" It seems no one else found this derogatory statement targeting Syrians objectionable. Salaamat!

steve70 Posted November 21, 2009 Share #30 Posted November 21, 2009 Hello, I too had read the negative comments on Willoughby, so I was a bit hesitante on calling regarding a Tri-Elmar 16-18-21mm that they had posted on ebay. It had not sold, so I contacted them on Thursday the 19th. I was assured that the lens, (It had a rather attractive price), but sans finder, was told that it had ben refurbished by Leica and it had all boxes, new E-leitz warranty, pouch, hood and caps. So I bit the perverbial bullet and orderd it. Other than one small glitch on my zip code, which they quickly corrected with UPS, I had the lens in hand yesterday AM EST. The lens was as described. This is the first experiance that I have had with them since the mid 1970's, so if they had been playing games as a lot of posts suggest, maybe now they are trying to clean up their act. Oh!, I did ask them about the M9s, and I was quoted the regular retail of $6995.00. Perhaps Leica got on their case?. Who knows!
ashwinrao1 Posted December 3, 2009 Share #31 Posted December 3, 2009 Given the slowness of my local dealer in getting an M9, I spoke to the folks at Willougby's, and was able to "bargain" them down to $7600 (which is roughly equal to what I would have paid locally with washington's 9% sales tax). They assured me that the camera was in stock and would be shipped by UPS via express delivery. I am a bit nervous about the purchase, but the Amazon rating for this company is quite high (> 95% positive) and the reseller ratings lists them at >7/10. Given the recent positive experiences of several forum members, I can only hope that my experience is comparable. It's black, and I'll put it on the delivery register once it is in hand. Sweating a bit, but I think it should be legit....

In the Netherlands we are way behind the US in accepting immigrants - oh, forgot, my great-grandparents were Indian and Indonesian - and I tell many people here: it is always better to rethink. Our societies have thrived through immigration, become what they are plus the better for it, and we better not forget that! Plus, on a personal and off-topic note: Syria is a great country. The government in power may be objectionable, the people sure are not. Welcoming, graceful, warm, full of good humour and fun. And the monuments are super. Also: Syria is the cradle of our civilisation. Some think the original paradise was the palm-garden Damascus, a long long time ago!

I garantee you are not going to change his heart on an internet photography forum. I'm sure he isn't happy with any ethnics shop owner. He is most likely a perpetually unhappy person. Guido Posted December 3, 2009 Share #34 Posted December 3, 2009 I find this more and more outrageous by the day. My dealer had my order with down payment for a grey M9 confirmed by Leica Germany on September 21 (yes, September!). First time I inquired a month ago, Leica Solms' response to dealer was, "4-6 weeks". Dealer inquired again last Monday, until now Leica didn't even bother to reply! Meanwhile, every Harry and Sally (sorry, no offense intended) seems to be getting their M9's at the whim of a phone call or shop walk-in. What on earth is going on?? ashwinrao1 Posted December 3, 2009 Share #35 Posted December 3, 2009 To nightfire....I feel the same way as you....I have been on my dealer's wait list since 9/9, with a deposit. I finally got frustrated enough to go online and try Willoughby's, given other positive experiences of forum members (who now have cameras in hand), and figured I'd give them a try. After doing this and contacting my dealer, they tell me that they may get 2 in next week, and that I should reconsider staying on the list....no guarantees, though...Very frustrated by this, I simply told them that I had been waiting for nearly 3 months, with very little information (certainly not their fault), while others were regularly getting cameras.... So I am hoping that Willoughby's successfully fills my order, as they have for others here. I really hope to have the camera for a trip out of the country in 1+ week's time, so here's to hoping it all works out....
LondonM Posted December 4, 2009 Share #36 Posted December 4, 2009 I bought my black M9 from Willoughby's after seeing their Amazon listing 3 weeks ago. Paid a bit more than list, but the Canadian price is higher and we have 13% tax, and so all in all I actually did just fine. They were a pleasure to deal with. I ordered with expedited shipping on Amazon, only to realize this was $900 !!!!! The guy at Willoughby's corrected my UPS shipping from expedited to standard (thus saving $600 !!!) and it took only 1 day to get from NYC to SW Ontario, Canada. The credit was on my credit card posted the same day. So I was quite happy. And I have 337 frames on my M9 getting used to my first rangefinder in 25 years.
