davephoto Posted December 3, 2006 Share #41 Posted December 3, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just read on this forum a M8 owner whose camera locked up: he removed the battery overnight and the M8 came back to life the next morning. Will tell you tomorrow if my D2 comes back as well ... - chris ...and?

ChrisDIGILUX2 Posted December 3, 2006 Share #43 Posted December 3, 2006 ...and 20 hours were not enough: all settings were still alive. Trying a longer period now. PS: Julio sent me the LC1 procedure (pressing two keys at startup): unfortunately, one of the two keys does not exist on the D2, so i tried several combinations but without success. Thank you Julio! - chris
ChrisDIGILUX2 Posted December 16, 2006 Share #44 Posted December 16, 2006 To those who want to try: a full week without battery doesn't reset my 2004 Digilux2! i kept have all my presets as well as the date... trying a longer period now but i am afraid it will not be available for the traditional christmas pictures.... - chris
ChrisDIGILUX2 Posted December 17, 2006 Share #45 Posted December 17, 2006 Suspecting a camera capacitor could not last a full week, i started to think there were a hidden battery inside... bingo! there is one! i followed Mark Norton instructions at http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digital-forum/2669-d2-evf-static.html PS: i do not recommend this to anyone: you need excellent eyes, cold-blood and fairy's fingers. Ok, the battery beeing on the reverse of the board, i have been able to remove it, for 10 minutes. Then i "rebuilt" my Digilux. A little bit anxious at statup, but it came back to life, asking to enter date and time! Unfortunately, this is the only information that had been reset. - chris

ChrisDIGILUX2 Posted December 18, 2006 Share #47 Posted December 18, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you Riley, but unfortunately, it does not appear to be a sensor problem: mine is an exposure problem coupled with a speed problem: manually, most of the speeds are disabled except 1/30 and 1/125 and in automatic, the light captor gives wrong values.... - chris
fulito Posted December 19, 2006 Share #48 Posted December 19, 2006 I (finally) got a call from Panasonic (Spain). The wait was way too long (almost three months), but they accepted to repair my LC1 (out of warranty) free of charge. They will replace the CCD. Let's see if this finally happens. fulito Posted January 11, 2007 Share #50 Posted January 11, 2007 At last I got my camera back from service. Repaired at zero cost. The whole process took a long time (near to 4 months), but kudos for Panasonic anyway.
nemo12 Posted April 24, 2007 Share #51 Posted April 24, 2007 I have exactly the same problem with my d2. Did you find a solution for this, besides sending the d2 to germany? thanks Christopher Hello everybody! my turn to have problems with my D2: i am in Argentina. My D2 started today to behave strangely, but it is difficult to say if it is the shutter, the aperture or the electronic: le LCD screen is overexposed (almost white) while the picture is (strongly) underexposed. I usually use automatic speed and manual aperture. I moved to "full manual", and here what i found: - if i take several pictures of the same item, constant aperture, varying speed, exposure is constant - if i take several pictures of the same item, constant speed, varying aperture, exposure is normal (from underexposed to overexposed) From this is i concluded that my problem was the shutter speed.... but another test, with automatic speed, shows almost white LCD screen with red 1/4000 shutter speed, inside the house (!) as if i were under the sun... if i take the picture, it is strongly underexposed in this case. Does anybody know if there is a "reset" procedure to "clean up" its electronic brain? Thank you! chris
dugby Posted April 25, 2007 Share #52 Posted April 25, 2007 This thread is disturbing me. My D2 sensor is half-dead. Happened this week. Sometimes works, 25% of the time after a power on, the image's base colours are phase shifted, or seems 'melted'. Totally unpredictable relabilty at the moment. I have a family trip to Tokyo, Paris & London in 2 weeks, as we are coming from Australia, not your regular holiday. After much deliberation i put on-hold my M8, 28/f2.0 summicron purchase and bought an L1 I've got a feeling my D2, has just become an expensive paper weight. I feel compelled to update this thread I am very grateful and thank the Leica Camera company for extending the D2 warranty. I sent my D2 direct to Solms for the 'out of warranty' repair, which took 8 weeks. Leica is a very honourable company, and has exceeded my after sales service expectations. by executing on the extended warranty. This has encouraged my eight recent Leica product purchases (4 cameras and 4 accessories). Dugby in Perth, Australia.
Arman Posted June 16, 2008 Share #53 Posted June 16, 2008 I have exactly the same problem with my d2. Did you find a solution for this, besides sending the d2 to germany? thanks Christopher I have also the same problem. You can hear the mechanism of the aperture moving around all the time. Images were first very much overexposed and now they are underexposed. My Digilux 2 has 2 yrs of warranty left. Maybe Leica should replace the sensor as well at the same time? jmr Posted June 25, 2008 Share #54 Posted June 25, 2008 An excellent repair turnaround from Leica. I sent my Digilux 2 back to Solms on the 9th June and received it back, new sensor and new rubber grip on 25th June. So, just over two weeks turnaround including postage between UK and Germany. The receipt of the camera was acknowledged by letter and progress was trackable over the internet throughout. Not bad for no cost
Arman Posted August 7, 2008 Share #55 Posted August 7, 2008 I sent my Digilux 2 to Solms the 15th of june and got it back 2 weeks later with a replaced sensor! All for free and they paid my expenses for sending it to Solms in Germany directly to my Swedish bank account! Very good service. I know the camera body is the original I had but it's almost looks like they also replaced the LCD, the evf and the lens(!!!) as well! Otherwise they really have cleaned it so it looks like new again. Regards, Arman
krabat Posted August 7, 2008 Share #56 Posted August 7, 2008 Very bad and sad news! My beloved Digilux 2 was completely soakened during a heavy rainstorm last week, and now I am trying in vain to dry the camera. I even had it in a drying oven at 37°C! Sometimes it can be switched on, sometimes not. I feel completely desperated and broken-hearted. :( I am afraid I have to send it to the CS, and I hope the repair will not be more expensive than another used DL 2. Pol-Alexandre Posted September 5, 2008 Share #57 Posted September 5, 2008 I am just a newcomer but I want to show my immense satisfaction with Leica CS in Solms. My D2 had become blind, so 1) I write an E-Mail to CS and receive an encouraging answer signed Frau LUH. I ship my camera on August 5, receive a repair contract by Aug 8 (free repair). The camera enters the workshop by Aug 11 and comes out by Aug 19 (followed on the CS repair site !). Also, I had indicated on the repair request form I was out of home between Aug 20 and 31, so they waited to be sure I was back home and shipped on Sep 2, and was delivered to me by DHL on Sep 4. Superb Packaging, Superb Camera (like new !), Superb Communication (Danke, Frau LUH !). In my life (75 soon), I never met such a fantastic Customer Service !!! Now I start enjoying my Digilux 2 !! Thanks again to LEICA ! I am starting to make advertisement ! Pol-Alexander
